Is your Ring doorbell not ringing on phone? Aren’t you getting the notifications that you’re supposed to be getting?
In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps in resolving this particular problem! We’ll give you a tutorial on how to fix this in both Android phones and iPhones!
To resolve the issue of Ring Doorbell not ringing on your phone, first, ensure that your device is connected to a WiFi network. Next, check and adjust the relevant settings on your smartphone to enable proper notifications from the Ring Doorbell.
Before we get to fixing it, let’s go ahead and figure out the common causes why Ring doorbell notifications aren’t working.
Whether you’re not receiving Ring doorbell notifications or you’re getting it at a delayed rate, there’s a problem.
Here are some of the most common and most customary reasons for that.
1. The Device is Not Connected to the Internet
One of the most common mistakes that people make is that they fail to check if their phones are connected to WiFi.
Oftentimes, people assume that they’re always 100% connected to the network But, there are some instances and situations where they get disconnected at a random rate.
If your device isn’t connected to a WiFi network with an internet connection, then you might not be able to get notifications, and that includes the Ring Doorbell.
2. The Device Notifications Are “OFF”
Whether you’re using an Android or an iPhone, it has general settings for notifications.
Check if the notifications are enabled or active on your device. This might be the reason for your Ring Doorbell to not give you alerts and notifications.
3. Do Not Disturb is Active
Another option or feature that could be toggled or activated is the Do Not Disturb mode. This specific functionality is existent so that when you’re resting or sleeping, you’ll get no alerts or notifications.
If this is turned on, then you’ll really get no notifications from whatever app or service on your device.
NOTE: You can choose to deactivate or modify what apps or programs the Do Not Disturb feature will have an effect on.
4. Ring App Settings
And last, but most definitely not least would be to check the settings of your Ring app. Check if you have notifications turned on through the app.
We’ll be discussing the methods of enabling the notifications of your Ring Doorbell on your phone. It doesn’t matter if you’re using an iPhone or an Android device, we’ll teach both ways to you!
Here’s the process of making your Ring Doorbell ring or give you notifications:
The first thing you want to do is to check if your Android smartphone is connected to WiFi.
To be accurate, you can check and see it by going into the Ring App > Device Health > Signal Strength.
Here’s a quick data that determines the RSSI readings:
- -66 to -90 is critical and can likely cause problems with connection and functionality.
- -65 to -41 is good; it’s the average RSSI reading,
- -40 or below is the best, which denotes an excellent signal without interference.
After that, the next thing you want to do is to check the notifications on your device. Your goal is to have the notifications of your device active.
You can do this by going into Settings > Notifications. From there, scroll until you see the Ring App and toggle the notifications on if it’s turned off.
NOTE: You can also toggle it to be status bars or app icon badges if you wish to.
Let’s deviate from our devices by discussing the Ring app itself.
From the Ring App, you want to go to the device and ensure that Motion Alerts and Ring Alerts are toggled and are set to the ON category.
By default, it should be turned on. However, you might have accidentally deactivated it or turned it off.
NOTE: Notification settings are set individually; it doesn’t carry over to different devices.
Then, what you have to do is to clear the cache and data of the Ring app.
You can do this by going into Settings > Applications. From there, locate the Ring app, click on it, and then hit on Storage. Press Clear Cache and Clear Data and that’s it!
With this, you’ll have to log into your Ring account again or you’ll have to detect the Ring Doorbell again.
And for the last step, what you need to do is to uninstall the Ring app and reinstall it again. This refreshes the connection and the storage of your Android device in connection with the Ring app.
Now, let’s head on to how we can fix it if you have an iPhone.
For troubleshooting the Ring app on iPhones, you’ll have to go through these steps.
The first thing to note is to check if your iPhone is connected to WiFi.
You can check it by going into Settings > WiFi and see if you’re connected. You can also check the signal strength of your device in the same way as checking it on the Android system or in the Ring App > Device Health > Signal Strength.
On iPhones, there is a Do Not Disturb feature, which is the functionality that can disable or silence alerts and notifications while your iPhone is locked.
You can check this by going into Settings > Do Not Disturb.
After that, the next thing you want to do is to check the Notifications on your iPhone. This is the option that’ll tell you what apps are able to push notifications.
To access this, go into Settings > Notifications. Then, scroll down until you see the Ring app. Check if the notifications for it are turned on.
Then, the next step is to toggle the alert and notifications on the Ring app. To do this, access the app and go to Device Settings.
Check and see if the Ring and Motion Alerts are turned on.
After that, perform a soft reset of your iPhone. You can do this by doing the following:
- Press and hold the sleep or wake button together with the volume down button until the screen goes black.
- Then, wait for the Apple logo to appear before releasing it.
- Try to test out the Ring Doorbell again to see if it’ll give you notifications
The last step is to uninstall and reinstall the application. Akin to the Android method, this will clear out all data and storage on the device.
To uninstall it, press and hold the Ring app until you see the little “x” button on the icon. Click on that “x” button to uninstall, and then reinstall it through the App Store.
