4. Install a Fresh Set of Batteries
There is a chance that the batteries in the SimpliSafe keypad are weak, dead, or incompatible, which causes range issues with the base station.

5. Move the Base Station Closer
Your base station must be within 10 feet of the SimpliSafe keypad for stable communication.
If your keypad is still showing out-of-range, it could be because the station is too far away.
There are cases when the keypad is within the range of the base station but still becomes out of range due to interference.
So, you should check and ensure the appropriate placement of the base station by keeping the following factors in mind.
Tips to Install Base Station:
- Avoid keeping the Station in enclosed cabinets.
- Place the station away from electronic devices.
- Ensure your station is set 3 feet off the ground.
- No concrete, brick, or metal wall exists in between.
- Avoid placing the base station on metal surfaces.
Note: For now, take the base station as close as possible to the keypad to test whether the error will disappear.
6. Check for Interfering Sources
The SimpliSafe base station and keypad communicate via Radio Frequency (RF) waves.
Any nearby electronic devices to the keypad running on the same frequencies may interfere with signals.
This will prevent the devices from communicating and surely cause out-of-rage errors.
Here is a list of a few wireless interfering sources:
- Wi-Fi routers
- Wi-Fi extenders
- Microwaves
- Weather Stations
- Bluetooth devices
- Baby Monitors
- Wireless Headsets
Look for such electronic devices near your SimpliSafe keypad, and attempt turning them off or moving them away.
Additionally, we recommend taking the base station right next to the keypad only to test whether the error appears because of interference or due to a system-related issue.
Note: If the out-of-range error appears even when the station and keypad are close to each other, then you’re facing a software problem.
7. Factory Reset the Base Station
If none of the above steps have helped so far and your keypad is out of range still, we suggest resetting your SimpliSafe base station.
It will resolve all software-related problems and fix the hiccup, but need to re-add your keypad to the Base Station after the process.

- Then, plug the base station into the electrical source.
The station will now go through a reset process that can take up to two minutes.
Once the reset is complete, you’ll see a “No Link to Dispatcher” message.
After that, you will need to re-add your keypad to the station.
8. Try the Emergency Pairing Button
There is a quick way to pair the keypad to the base station by using the Emergency Pairing Button located within the battery compartment.
