SimpliSafe Doorbell Not Flashing White – Quick Solutions
Tip: Follow our steps in succession!
1. Soft Reset the SimpliSafe Doorbell
You’ve installed the SimpliSafe doorbell, and if the unit fails to indicate that it has entered a QR scanning mode, you should perform a soft reset of the system.
The system restart is done by unmounting the frontal plate and holding the reboot button on the back.
Alert: The other buttons on the back of the doorbell restore the unit to factory defaults!
Here’s how to start a soft reset on your SimpliSafe doorbell quickly:
- Push the front plate of the SimpliSafe doorbell upwards.
- Once it comes loose, detach it from the mounting plate.
- Locate the Action buttons on the back of your doorbell.
- Hold the small Action button that does a system reboot.
- Release the button after 5 seconds to begin the process.
Note: After SimpliSafe reboots, the color of the status lamp should immediately turn white!
2. Re-Activate SimpliSafe’s Status Light
A feature within the SimpliSafe app allows you to deactivate the status light of a particular doorbell or connected extra sensor.
If you were adding the doorbell into the app, you accidentally set the “Status Light” function to “Off,” your doorbell will not blink white.
Here’s how to re-activate the status light of the doorbell within the app:
- Launch the SimpliSafe app on your mobile device.
- Navigate to the “Cameras” tab from the access menu.
- Next, select the gear icon at the top part of the screen.
- Select your SimpliSafe doorbell camera on the page.
- Finally, set the “Status Light” function to “On” and exit.
Note: The feature can be accessed during set-up and later in the doorbell’s settings!
3. Remove & Reinsert SimpliSafe’s Doorbell
Your SimpliSafe doorbell might fail to work due to the insufficiency of the backup rechargeable battery.
The hard wiring’s primary purpose is to maintain the capacity of the doorbell’s internal battery at 100% so that the unit can last longer in case of a power outage.
Here’s how to access and remove the doorbell’s backup battery:
- First, uninstall the doorbell from the mounting plate.
- Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws on the back.
- Expose the battery compartment on the back panel.
- Push the release latch to access the compartment.
- Remove the battery and wait for up to 〜30 seconds.
Tip: You should replace the battery of the doorbell once every 6 months!
4. Reinstall the SimpliSafe Mobile App
One of the reasons why the white pulsing LED indicator on your doorbell isn’t coming on could be due to an issue with the SimpliSafe app.
If the doorbell cannot read the QR code generated on your mobile phone through the SimpliSafe app, you must remove and reinstall the app.
How to Reinstall the SimpliSafe App On Android?
- Open the “Settings” app on your Android mobile.
- Next, navigate to the “Storage” tab on your device.
- Locate the SimpliSafe app and press on it once.
- Choose the “Uninstall” option and wait 5 seconds.
- Download SimpliSafe via the Google Play Store.
How to Reinstall the SimpliSafe App On iOS?
- Hold the app on the homepage of your iOS device.
- Choose the “Remove this app” option in the menu.
- After SimpliSafe is uninstalled, open the App Store.
- Find the SimpliSafe app and press the cloud icon.
- Wait for the app to install and sign in to your profile.
Note: A reliable internet connection is required to download, install, and manage applications!
5. Re-Knot SimpliSafe’s Terminal Wires
If the SimpliSafe doorbell fails to initialize and display a white pulsing light, you should verify if the terminal wires are properly knotted with the mounting plate.
The conductor wires establish a constant and uninterrupted connection with the doorbell to recharge the battery.
In case of a failure with the hard-wiring, the doorbell will start consuming the battery life of the backup battery until a total exhaustion of all battery reserves.
Here’s how to access and re-knot the doorbell wires in your home:
- Remove the SimpliSafe doorbell from the mounting plate.
- Uninstall the top and bottom screws of the mounting plate.
- Deactivate the circuit breaker power supply of the doorbell.
- Remove the white and red wires from the battery terminals.
- Expose the copper conductor within the plastic wire cover.
- Knot the red “C” wire around the left bracket terminal first.
- Knot the white “GRND” wire around the right A/C terminal.
- Reinstall the doorbell and re-activate the unit’s power supply.
How to Deactivate Doorbell’s Circuit Breaker?
Before working on the doorbell’s wires, you must deactivate the power supply of the doorbell to avoid potential injury.
Typically, most doorbell installations have a separate wire at the circuit breaker, so access the panel and look for a “Doorbell” switch that you must push down.
Tip: Use gloves and step on an isolator while working with the wires to maximize safety!
6. Restore the Doorbell to Defaults
If the doorbell is not working after attempting all solutions, you should perform a factory reset on the SimpliSafe unit.
Holding the more prominent Action button on the back of the unit can restore the doorbell’s factory settings and solve the missing white light.
Here’s how to perform a factory reset on the SimpliSafe unit efficiently:
- Remove the faceplate of the SimpliSafe doorbell.
- Hold the factory reset button on the unit’s back.
- Release the doorbell’s button after ~15 seconds.
- Wait until the doorbell finalizes the factory reset.
Warning: Restoring the doorbell to defaults will remove it from the SimpliSafe mobile app.
How to Set Up a SimpliSafe Doorbell After Factory Reset?
Once the doorbell has finished resetting, you must re-add it back into the app!
Here’s how:
- Open the SimpliSafe app on your Android or iOS mobile.
- Choose “Cameras” from the menu and tap “Add Camera.”
- Select the type of video doorbell you have from the menu.
- Enter your Wi-Fi credentials to connect to your SimpliSafe.
- Click the “Get Your Code” to generate a QR on your mobile.
