However, many proven methods and workarounds exist to reconnect your Kasa plug!
To change the Wi-Fi of the Kasa plug, remove the unit from the app and reinstall the platform on your mobile.

Is Kasa Smart Plug Change WiFi Possible?
Unfortunately, no particular setting allows you to alter the current Wi-Fi connection of the smart plug.
However, by re-adding the plug or performing a factory reset, you can achieve the same results and assign a new Wi-Fi network to your TP-Link Kasa.
Why Change Kasa’s Wi-Fi?
There could be multiple reasons why you’re willing to alter the plug’s Wi-Fi:

So, due to the absence of a particular function that lets you alter your Kasa device’s Wi-Fi connection, we must attempt some workaround methods, so let’s get started.

1. Remove the Kasa Plug From the App
A quick method to pick a different Wi-Fi network for your Kasa without using the control button to factory reset is to remove the unit from the application.
So, re-adding Kasa from the app will remove the device from the OhmConnect dashboard and erase all monitoring plug settings.
Once Kasa is successfully removed from the app, you must undergo the standard “add device” procedure from scratch and select a different Wi-Fi network.
Follow these instructions to remove the Kasa plug from the app:
- Open the Kasa Smart App on the mobile device.
- Navigate to the “Devices” section from the menu.
- Locate the Kasa plug in the list of added devices.
- Hold the Kasa plug and select “Remove Device.”
- Wait for ~3-4 seconds until the plug is removed.
- Press on the “Add Device” button to re-add Kasa.
- Complete the installation of the Kasa plug again.
During the installation, you will be prompted to select a new Wi-Fi network from the available connections for your plug.
If your router’s new network or your mobile hotspot does not appear, you can use manual SSID insertion, and the plug should connect automatically.
Note: The manual SSID insertion will also request the password for your network!
2. Uninstall the Kasa Mobile Application
You can also reset Kasa’s Wi-Fi settings by uninstalling and downloading TP-Link’s Kasa Smart App again on your device.
This is a standard method to reset the system settings of all devices associated with the app, including the Kasa plug, without physical interaction.

How to Reinstall the Kasa App On Android?
- Launch the Google Play Store on your Android device.
- Tap on your profile icon at the top-right part of the page.
- Select “Manage Installed Applications” from the options.
- Next, uninstall the Kasa Smart App from within the page.
- Use the search bar to find the Kasa app and download it.
How to Reinstall the Kasa App On iOS?
- Find the Kasa app on the homepage of your iOS mobile.
- Hold the app for 2 seconds until the pop-up menu appears.
- Next, choose the “Remove this app” option from the menu.
- Open the App Store and locate the Kasa app in the results.
- Press on the cloud icon to install the Kasa Smart app again.
Any other device profiles assigned to the Kasa app besides the plug’s profile will also be erased due to reinstallation.
Don’t forget to re-add each TP-Link Kasa device after downloading the application freshly from Google Play or the App Store on your mobile.

3. Restore Kasa Plug to Factory Defaults
If you’re still wondering how to change WiFi on Kasa plug, consider restoring the device to factory defaults using the built-in “Control” button.
A single button on the surface of your Kasa plug that controls the unit’s power activates “Setup Mode” and can factory reset the device.
Unlike removing the plug from the app or re-configuring it, the factory reset via the “Control” button will erase all the plug’s settings.
Let’s learn how to factory reset the Kasa plug with the control button:
- Verify that the outlet’s power is currently activated.
- Locate the “Control” button on the Kasa’s surface.
- Hold the button for 5s to enable the “Setup” mode.
- Hold the button for 10s to initiate the factory reset.
- Wait for ~25-30 seconds while the reset is complete.
Since the “Control” button operates multiple of the Kasa plug’s functionalities, you must hold it simultaneously to achieve the factory restoration.
If you only hold it for 5 seconds and release it, the Kasa plug will simply enter “Setup” mode, which will not erase any of the settings.
Note: Do not interact or press the “Control” button a third time once the factory reset has begun.
4. Unpair the Plug from the Router’s GUI (Advanced)
If you can’t lose the plug’s existing Wi-Fi connection through the Kasa app, you can manually disconnect it from your router’s GUI settings.
By acquiring the default gateway and signing in, you will be able to view all of your network’s settings and manage all the connected devices.
Here’s how to manually remove the Kasa plug’s connection from your router:
- Open a browser and paste your router’s default gateway.
- Next, sign in to the router’s GUI by inputting “admin” twice.
- After that, navigate to the “Admin” or “Management” page.
- Look for the “DHCP Clients” or “Attached Devices” table.
- Locate a client or device that includes “Kasa” or “TP-Link.”
- Right-click on the connection and select “Delete” to remove.
You must remove devices with caution as you may delist another device that isn’t your plug by accident.
If you have more than one TP-Link device, recognize them by the serial number.
Note: The plug’s serial number is on the rear surface panel.
5. Alter your Wi-Fi Network’s Password
Although drastic, altering the password of the Kasa plug’s network is another way to change the plug’s Wi-Fi.
So, before configuring any of the SSID settings, you should consider whether this password change will negatively impact other devices or users on your Wi-Fi network.
Once you’re confident with your choice, you only need the default gateway to access your router’s GUI and configure the WPA2 or WPA3 codes.

- Open a web browser on a laptop or computer.
- Insert your router’s default gateway in “Search.”
- Once on the log-in page, sign in using “admin.”
- Look for a “Wireless,” “WLAN,” or “Security” tab.
- Next, enter a new value under “Wi-Fi Password.”
- Type the password again to confirm the alteration.
Once the password is successfully changed, relaunch the Kasa Smart App on your mobile, and you will be prompted to pick a new Wi-Fi network for all assigned devices.
However, if there is no notification that the TP-Link devices are offline, re-launch the app and wait 30–40 seconds.
Alert: Altering the password of your Wi-Fi network will unpair all currently connected devices!
