What to do when the Blink Camera won’t connect to the Sync Module?
The Blink Camera and Sync Module can work together to improve your home surveillance.
The Blink Home app is versatile and intuitive, so the device connection should hardly fail.
If Blink Camera is not connecting to the Sync Module, check network devices, frequency, app permissions, batteries, and firmware. Updates or resets if necessary.
Read all the info below to learn how to connect the devices effectively!
Blink Camera Won’t Connect To Sync Module? – 8 Fixes
Solution #1: Assess Conflicting Devices
Wireless interference issues can arise during the setup of Blink devices when your home electronics are connected to the same Wi-Fi.
If you encounter the “Unable to Connect to Sync Module” error whenever you add devices to your system, consider removing some Wi-Fi-connected home electronics:
- Smart Thermostats.
- Baby Monitors.
- Microwave Ovens.
- Refrigerators, etc.
After the setup procedure, you can reconnect your domestic devices to the Wi-Fi again.
Note: Restart the router to ensure a fresh connection. Restarting the camera and sync module is a great idea, too.
Solution #2: Check The Network
Some issues could arise in the network connection beyond the interference of other devices.
For example, you must ensure the camera, phone, and sync module are close to the router.
Once you do that, you must check the following:
- Go to your phone’s Wi-Fi settings.
- Check which Wi-Fi network it is connected to.
- The network must be 2.4 GHz!
- If connected to 5GHz, switch to the 2.4GHz frequency.
Routers usually have two frequencies, and many phones already use the 5GHz network.
However, Blink devices need to use 2.4GHz. Since your phone is bridging the devices, it must connect to 2.4GHz, too.
Note: Moreover, all devices must connect to the same router. If you have two routers in your house, the sync module and camera must link to the same.
Solution #3: Assess The Camera’s Batteries
Sometimes, you try to add the Blink camera to the app but receive a message stating that the camera is not responsive to the Sync Module.
The app tells you to take the batteries out for a few seconds and install them anew. Certainly, you already tried that.
If the method hasn’t worked for you, you must do the following:
- Remove the batteries again.
- Check if the battery compartment is damaged, dusty, or dirty.
- Clean accordingly if necessary.
- Verify the batteries’ condition.
If you have new batteries, you should try replacing the old ones. The matter here might be simply due to the batteries.
Solution #4: Enable Local Network
Why won’t my blink camera connect to my sync module? Sometimes, an app tries to connect to other devices in the same network but is blocked by the phone’s security system.
It is completely feasible to work around that both on Android and iOS. Let’s take a look at it.
On The Android
Android users must follow these steps to grant network permissions to the Blink app:
- Access your device’s Settings app.
- Go to the “Apps” section.
- Find and choose the Blink app.
- Select “Permissions.”
- You’ll see a list of permissions, including granted and denied ones.
- To modify a permission, tap on it.
- You’ll be given the option to “Allow” or “Don’t allow.”
You must locate the network permission and allow it. It is also necessary to allow microphone and camera permissions.
On The iOS
On iOS, apps usually ask for permissions once you launch them or click any required option.
But if that doesn’t show up, you should grant permissions manually:
- Launch the Settings app.
- Go to Privacy.
- Check the “Local Network” setting.
- All the apps will be displayed.
- Allow local network access to the Blink app.
Solution #5: Update The Sync Module Firmware
If you have already tried all the options above, it is time to start looking at the firmware on both devices.
First, assess the sync module firmware since your camera cannot connect. One reason that happens is because the firmware is outdated.
Thus, the sync module can’t communicate well with the app and other devices.
- Open the Blink app on your mobile device.
- Tap on the “Settings” icon or option.
- Select “Sync Module” or similar.
- Look for a “Firmware Update” or “Software Update” section.
- Check for updates.
- If available, choose to install it.
The update can take a while, depending on your internet connection.
If that happens, wait for the update to finish, and don’t close the app or switch it to the background.
Once the update finishes, test if you can connect the Blink Camera to the Sync Module.
Solution #6: Update The Blink Camera Firmware
Another possibility here is that the Blink Camera’s firmware is outdated. Usually, devices update once you connect them to the proprietary app.
But if you’ve had the Blink Camera for a while, it can fail to do so due to a glitch.
And if the device is glitched, it explains why it can’t connect to the Sync Module.
So do the following:
- Open the Blink app on your mobile device.
- Tap on the “Settings” icon or option within the app.
- Select the specific camera you want to update.
- Look for a “Firmware Update” or “Software Update.”
- Check for updates.
- If available, choose to install it.
As with the Sync Module’s update, the camera might take a while, too.
Remember not to close the app or switch it to the background. Wait while the process goes on.
Solution #7: Reinstall The Sync Module
Is the sync module showing up as offline in the Blink app? In that case, reinstalling it is one option you can try.
The process will take only a few minutes, and click on the phone’s screen.
First, let’s see how to delete it from the app.
- Tap the “Sync Module Offline” banner within the app.
- Tap “Delete Sync Module.”
- Dismiss the popup suggesting to reach Customer Service.
- Enter or scan the device’s serial number (located on the Sync Module’s back).
- Tap on “Continue.”
- Confirm the deletion by tapping “DELETE.”
How To Reinstall
Reinstalling the Sync Module will be more complex. A lot of info is necessary to set it up neatly.
- Return to the Blink app’s Home screen.
- Tap the “+” button (Add device).
- Choose “Blink wireless camera system.”
- Scan the QR code on the Sync Module or manually enter the serial number.
You’ll need to choose a system for the Sync Module to link to. You can create or connect a new system to an existing one.
If you want to restore your previous camera settings, connect the Sync Module to the system it was previously linked to.
Next:
- The app will prompt you to plug in your Sync Module.
- Wait for about 30 seconds until you see a flashing blue light followed by a solid green light pattern.
- Tap “Discover Device” in the Blink app.
- Tap “Join” to allow permission for “Blink” to join the Wi-Fi network.
- Select the network currently used by the Blink app.
- Enter the network password when prompted. Confirm by tapping “Join.”
After that, connecting the Blink Camera and the Sync Module should present no trouble.
Solution #8: Hard Reset The Blink Camera
Lastly, check the Blink Camera’s options and look for the reset function.
You will perform a full reset on the camera, both from the app and manually.
That way, all glitches on it should be erased (if the camera is truly the problem and not the sync module).
Do the following:
- Sign in to your Blink account through the mobile app.
- Find the menu button.
- Choose System Preferences.
- Click on the System you want to remove.
- Select “Delete System” from the menu that appears.
- A confirmation page will appear.
- Make sure you’re deleting the right system.
- Click the Delete button.
After that, proceed to reset the camera physically:
- Locate the reset button at the bottom of the camera
- Hold it for 30 seconds
- Check that all data has been reset
Quick Recap
You learned that the Blink Camera won’t connect to the Sync Module whenever there is a network- or software-related issue.
The alternative to that is the batteries or permissions on the app. Thus, locating the culprit and fixing the situation within a few minutes is very easy.
