Not working speakers is a frequent occurrence among Ring Doorbell users and here you’ll learn how to fix it.

Speaker issues could be related to a problem with the Wi-Fi connectivity or incorrect establishment of the device’s sound settings. Your volume levels could be all the way down, or there could be a malfunction of your speakers.

Once you’re ready with the obvious preparation it is time to learn more about the possible causes.
The sound stability is really the most sensitive part of your Ring Doorbell.
But when it comes down to outdoor smart-home devices, there could be a ton of things that could happen with your Ring Doorbell.
To illustrate the possible causes better, we’ve made a list at your disposal:
1. Wi-Fi Loss
If your doorbell isn’t connected to Wi-Fi, there is a good possibility that it won’t be able to communicate with the main unit and produce any sound.
2. Turned on Bluetooth
Bluetooth could sometimes cause interruptions in the sound of your Ring Doorbell.
3. Hardware Problem
If a component of your device has gone faulty and needs replacement, it could also impact or suppress the volume your doorbell produces.
4. Faulty Speakers
If the speakers of your doorbell are malfunctioning, you will either hear a scratching sound when you’re close or no sound at all.
5. Turned Down Volume Levels
If you’ve turned the volume of your Ring Doorbell all the way down using the mobile app, you won’t hear any sound coming out of the device.
6. Muted/Silent/Power Saving Doorbell
If you’ve enabled a power-saving or silent feature, there is a possibility that it will disable your doorbell’s voice.
7. Bad Sound Settings
If you haven’t established the sound settings correctly or haven’t appointed the correct output device, your doorbell’s volume won’t work.
Now when you’re familiar with the circle of possible causes, let’s start with the troubleshooting.
The troubleshooting methods below are designed to address each of the causes we’ve described earlier so we recommend not skipping anything.
Moreover, make sure to apply the methods in order so you can identify the problem and not only fix it.
The first thing that you should approach the problem with is a hard reset.
Hard resets are well-known to provide an effective restart that will reboot all services and hopefully you will start hearing the sound.
Follow the steps below so you won’t worry if you got anything wrong:
- First, make sure your Ring Doorbell is up and running.
- Locate the orange button, located somewhere on the hardware of your Ring Doorbell.
- Press the orange button and keep applying pressure for 20 seconds.
- Release the pressure from the orange button.
- A restart will follow up, which shouldn’t take longer than 1 minute.
Note: If the restart after the hard reset takes longer than around a minute and a half, there might be something wrong with your Ring doorbell.
If the device occasionally goes black after a hard reset or simple restart, make sure to get its hardware checked.
As unbelievable as it may sound, you may not be able to hear your Ring Doorbell because its volume is turned all the way down.
This is usually because there are no physical buttons on the device that will help you adjust the volume and the only way to do so is through the app.
Note: If you still haven’t downloaded the Ring app, go to your smartphone’s App Store and type “Ring”.
Download the first result and pair it up using the QR code on the back of the device and follow the on-screen steps to finalize the setup.
After successfully making a connection to the doorbell with your smartphone, you should head to the Settings. Then, navigate to the Sounds tab, or something similar and there you should find a volume slider.
On this volume, the slider depends on what sound your Ring Doorbell will produce. Make the volume adjustments by your preferences and confirm your actions by clicking the OK button down the screen.
If the Ring Doorbell speaker not working still, you can try to temporarily disable the Bluetooth of your device.
Many users reported that the signal Bluetooth transmits, somehow interferes with the volume of your Ring Doorbell. Moreover, your doorbell could be connected to an unknown device.
To disable the Bluetooth, open the mobile Ring app and go to the Options once again. From there, find the Bluetooth Connection Settings and drag the slider left of your screen.
Now the slider must be gray, which means that you have successfully disabled the Bluetooth feature of your Ring Doorbell.
Note: If you are willing to turn it on again, perform the same steps and drag the slider all the way to the right side of the screen.

Another common occurrence for volume loss on Ring Doorbells is interruptions in the Wi-Fi connectivity.
If there isn’t a reliable Wi-Fi signal reaching up to your doorbell, it may lose connections to the network and your phone as well.
This means it won’t be able to measure what sound to produce and will mute itself until further notice.
To prevent this from happening, you must ensure that your doorbell is getting a reliable internet connection.
Go to the Ring app and click on the tab labeled Wi-Fi and connectivity. From there, check whether your doorbell is connected to the home network or not.
Pro Tip: Test your network using a free online speed test to identify any latency or internet drops. In case of any issue, try restarting your router or calling your supplier.
While it is a rare occasion the whole problem could be coming from the Ring Doorbell software. In that regard, the last thing you can try at home would be to prevent the device back to its factory default settings.
That means that all settings, configurations, and data will be permanently erased from the device for good.
To perform a factory reset on your Ring Doorbell hold the orange button for about 20 seconds.
Once you release it the front light should start flickering to indicate that the device is about to restart.
Wait until the reset is complete (approximately 5 minutes), complete the setup and check if there will be a sound.
If nothing has managed to help you so far, your Ring Doorbell might have a hardware problem.
In most cases, that hardware problem is either related to speaker malfunction, or something internal of the device has gone faulty.
The only thing you can do here, except disassembling the device by yourself, would be to seek assistance from a technician.
It is more likely that they will get your problem taken care of better than you, so don’t bother taking the device apart, as you might damage some of its components.
If your warranty is intact you’d be lucky but if not you can contact Ring customer service for additional help.
