Why Is My Yale Smart Lock Beeping? – Complete Fix Guide

Finn Wheatley Updated onJanuary 14, 2025
yale smart lock beeping

Is your Yale smart lock beeping? That can happen sometimes, and it usually does not indicate an issue. However, you should look into it if it is a persistent beeping.

When the Yale smart lock keeps beeping, you must check if it is connected to the network or if its batteries are at fault. If those are fine, then you must create a new PIN, update the firmware, reset the lock, or check its physical installation.

Most of the solutions are very straightforward and will not require you to do anything difficult.

However, in the worst-case scenario, you must reset the lock and reprogram it entirely. Or you might have to assess the door where it is installed.

You probably think you have configured everything neatly, but then a beep resonates.

There are some potential reasons behind the issue:

✅ Low Battery

It is possible that the lock’s battery must be recharged or changed. It could also be damaged or not positioned correctly.

✅ Auto-Lock Feature

Your Yale Smart Lock may be set to auto-lock after a certain period. When the lock is about to engage, it will beep to alert you.

✅ Firmware Error

Some firmware errors will cause the lock’s electronic system to bug, thus prompting inconvenient beeps.

✅ Installation Issue

If there is any issue in the electronic or physical installation of the lock into the door, it will beep to alert you.

When your Yale smart lock keeps beeping, you must understand the cause and investigate accordingly.

Below we will suggest the top-rated fixing methods you can use to eliminate the annoying beep.

1. Ensure Network Connectivity

The Yale smart lock may be beeping to alert that it has lost connection to the Wi-Fi.

When that happens, you won’t be able to control it from your phone. It is not a desirable scenario.

So the first thing to do is this:

  1. Power off your router;
  2. Wait a minute;
  3. Power it back on.

Wait a bit so the Yale lock can connect to the Wi-Fi again.

Check For Interference

It is also possible that the Yale lock has lost its connection to your Wi-Fi due to signal interference.

That can happen when you bring more devices to the house, which are placed between the router and the lock. It also happens if you move the router a bit farther.

  • Another possibility is that a neighbor of yours is interfering with the frequency, even if not on purpose.

That happens when their router is using the same channel as yours.

You can change the channel by doing this:

  1. Open your web browser;
  2. Enter your router’s IP and press enter;
  3. Find “Wireless settings”;
  4. Click on “Channels”;
  5. Change the 2.4GHz network to a different channel.

2. Create A New PIN

create new pin code

Perhaps you are facing a beeping issue when trying to enter your PIN. Perhaps you’ve forgotten the correct PIN or the lock has malfunctioned and is not recognizing the PIN.

In any case, creating a new PIN will help you get through it. Here is how:

  1. Press the Yale logo;
  2. Press the gear icon;
  3. Create a code between 4 and 8 digits;
  4. Press the gear icon again.

That will be your new master code. Then, whenever you want to change it, you must touch the keypad with the palm of your hand and press “#.”

3. Check The Batteries

check the batteries

One of the official reasons that make the Yale lock beeps without end is an issue with the batteries.

They can be low in charge, damaged, or positioned badly. So here is what you will do:

  1. Remove the battery cover;
  2. Remove all the batteries;
  3. Check their appearance;
  4. If any looks damaged, replace them;
  5. Ensure you put all batteries back in the correct position.

If the lock keeps beeping, the batteries are low on charge. So then, replace all old batteries with new ones.

4. Update The Firmware

It is possible that the beeping will alert you that the Yale lock needs a firmware update. Firmware updates are usually deployed and installed automatically.

However, they will only be installed automatically when the lock is connected to the app.

update the firmware

If your phone is not connected to the app already, follow these instructions:

  1. Turn the lock on;
  2. Turn Bluetooth on your phone;
  3. Open the Yale Access app;
  4. Touch “Set Up A Device”;

The next screen will require you to scan the QR code of your lock. That QR code is located in the quick guide in the packaging.

Updating The Firmware

As soon as the app connects to the lock:

  1. Wait for the app to search for a firmware update;
  2. If found, allow it to install the update;
  3. Wait some minutes to finish.

You must not close the app or leave it running in the background. The app must remain open to install the update.

Tip: Whenever the lock is beeping, and you think it might need a firmware update, simply enable Bluetooth on your phone and open the app.

5. Reset The Lock

reset the lock

If the beeping persists, you must reset the Yale Lock. There is more than one way to do that, and we will help you go through the correct steps.

The physical reset method will try to refresh the hardware by leaving it without batteries for a while:

  2. Remove the batteries;
  3. Hold the lock button;
  4. Wait a minute;
  5. Put the batteries back;
  6. Hear for the lock/unlock with beepings.

Once the lock stops locking and unlocking, it has been reset.

6. Reset Through The App

Another method to reset the Yale Lock and eliminate its constant beeping is through the app.

  1. Activate Bluetooth on your phone;
  2. Ensure the phone recognizes the device;
  3. Open the Yale Access app;
  4. Open “House Settings”;
  5. Choose “Yale Smart Keypad”;
  6. Tap on “Disconnect Keypad”;
  7. Confirm by tapping “Disconnect.”

Next, you will receive a reset code on your phone. Once that happens, press the Yale button on the smart lock.

Note: The keypad should show a blinking red, and then you can follow the in-app instructions to reset the smart lock.

7. Check The Access Module

The access module can also be responsible for the constant beeping on your Yale smart lock.

The access module is a piece of the lock you have installed behind its cover. It is located on top of the batteries.

  • If it is not well seated, it will trigger the lock.
  1. Remove the battery cover;
  2. Remove the batteries;
  3. Detach the escutcheon;
  4. Adjust the access module placement;
  5. Hold down the reset button for 3 seconds while putting the batteries back;
  6. Put the cover back.

With batteries and access modules installed correctly, the lock should stop beeping.

8. Check The Physical Conditions

Sometimes the smart lock will beep because of the door’s physical conditions or the installation itself.

check the physical conditions

So here are some guidelines you can follow to assess that:

  • Ensure the door can lock in place correctly;
  • If the door is locked, but the lock keeps beeping, open it and check for blockages between the door and the door frame;
  • Find the screws that keep the lock in place. Perhaps they are a bit loose, and you must fasten them.
