To clear the cache on your LG smart TV, you should clear both the browser cache and the app cache.

Let’s now learn more about the cached data, and then reveal the entire process in a detailed step-by-step guide.

How To Clear Cache On LG Smart TV?

There are two general types of cache your smart LG TV has. Memory cache can stock up both when browsing the internet and when using apps.

Unfortunately, these caches must be cleared separately, since there is no feature that will allow you to erase them altogether.

Note: Factory resetting your TV does clear both.

Let’s start with erasing the app cache on your smart LG TV in easy steps:

App cache usually stacks up when using apps installed on the software of your TV.

It usually doesn’t take much space of your TV’s storage, but it is recommended to clear it once in a while to boost the performance.

Follow the instructions down below to delete the app cache on your smart LG TV:

Step #1 Go To The Settings

In order to delete the cache in the LG TV, you must first go to the settings. You can do that by going Home screen > Menu > Settings.

Once in the settings, you will be able to choose from a variety of features to configure, including your TV’ storage.

Step #2 Go To The Storage Unit

The app cache can be accessed by opening the storage unit of the LG TV. Since you’re already in the options, simply tap on the Apps icon and select “Application Manager”.

Note: The app cache on most smart TVs must be cleared individually, for each app. The more storage a certain app takes, the more app cache it generates.

To enter the storage unit for a certain app, select the program you wish to open and press on “Storage”.

Once inside the storage settings, proceed with the next step to erase the cache for that particular application.

Step #3 Clear App’s Cache

The last step is to erase the actual app cache that the certain program has generated so follow the steps below:

  1. Wait for the app settings for a certain program to open.
  2. Scroll down until you find the “Clear Cache” button.
  3. Repeat for each app you want to clear the cache for.

Keep in mind that this certain function might not be available for all applications.

Some of the programs that are the default for your TV won’t have app cache, so you don’t have to worry about excess storage.

Unfortunately, clearing the cache of the LG TV doesn’t end there.

By browsing the internet and visiting various websites, your TV also generates a certain amount of cache, depending on how long you were using the internet.

There is an easy way to erase the browser cache on any smart LG TV including the WebOS models.

Down below we have provided step-by-step instructions on how to clear browser memory quickly.

Step #1 Open Your Browser

To delete the browser cache, you must first open the LG TV browser. If you’re using a webOS LG TV, your browser is most likely the “Web Engine”.

You will be able to find the browser by heading to the home screen using the remote button and tapping the internet engine at the bottom.

Step #2 Go To The Browser Settings

Once the web engine has been opened in the LG TV, to erase the cache you must go to the settings.

You can access your browser’s settings by pressing the menu icon, located in the top-right corner of your screen.

Give it a press and then look for the settings tab, which you can access with a single click as well.

Step #3 Set “Private Browsing” On (Optional)

To resolve the browser cache problem in the future, we suggest toggling the “Private Browsing” feature.

This will prevent your IP from going public, therefore no cache will be kept after an internet surfing session. You can toggle the feature from the settings tab, at the browsing features section.

The feature is optional of course, but if you wish to prevent any browser cache from storing up furthermore, it is recommended to enable the Private Browsing setting.

Enabled or not, proceed with the next step to delete the actual browser cache data.

Step #4 Clear The Cache

The final step in clearing your TV’s cache is to erase the actual browsing data.

You can do that from the settings drop-down menu, next to the “Private Browsing” feature that we assume you’ve enabled in the previous step.

To erase the browser cache, go to Browser > Menu > Settings > Clear Browsing Data. By pressing “OK”, you will confirm the clearing of your browser’s cache.

Note: If you wish to erase cookies as well, you can do it from the “History” tab.

Be informed that this would also erase all saved credentials you’ve saved into your browser so far.

My LG TV’s Memory Is Still Full…

In case clearing the cache didn’t help resolve insufficient memory problems, we suggest factory resetting the LG TV.

This will delete all temporarily stored applications, therefore you won’t have to individually delete them one by one.

To perform a factory reset for the LG TV, follow the steps down below:

  1. Go to the settings tab of the LG TV.
  2. Tap on the “All Settings” option.
  3. Choose “General” and then select “Reset To Initial Settings”.
  4. Confirm by pressing the “YES button.

The reset might take several minutes, so you must make sure your TV’s power supply is not compromised.

Once the reset is over, ALL cached data will no longer be there and any memory/storage-related issues should no longer be there.
