Why Is Owlet Disconnected From Base Station?
Your sock may be disconnected if it often exceeds the Bluetooth range of the base station.

Base Station Power Problem
If your base station is shutting down, this will cause the sock to disconnect and you will have to reconnect it each time.
Moving Out of Bluetooth Range
Going over the recommended 12 meters (around 30 feet) will cause the sock to disconnect.
Something or someone that is close to the Owlet sock may be creating interference, causing the signal to drop in quality or disconnect.
Base Station Software Problem
Your Base station might be going through some software troubles, thus, causing the sock to disconnect.
Owlet Sock Has No Battery
Every time your Owlet sock runs out of battery, it will disconnect from the base station until it is charged again.
Those were the possible problems that are occurring to your Owlet sock.
If you wish to troubleshoot these certain troubles, keep reading as we unveil the best solutions available.
Now that you’ve taken a quick look at what could be possibly causing the problem, we’ve prepared some solutions you should attempt.
Make sure to follow the order of our solutions and test your Owlet sock’s WiFi after each of them to determine if the issue has been solved.
Here’s how to fix your Owlet sock that disconnects from the base station:
Chances are that this occurrence is a one-time and by reconnecting the sock to the base station, you should be able to fix the issue.
In that regard, here’s how to reconnect your Owlet sock to the base station in the correct way:
- Go over to your base station and make sure it is turned on.
- Press the small rectangular button on the base station for 3 seconds.
- Wait for the chirp/beep.
- Immediately afterward, press the large button on the base station.
- Wait for the second beep.
- Disengage the Owlet sock’s cover and check if the LED becomes lit up.
Note: You can track whether the sock is connected or not, by looking at the LED on the bottom of the device.
You should make sure that your Owlet sock is charged up before re-attempting to pair it over and over again.
A power problem will also cause the device to disconnect or whenever the unit is running dangerously low on battery power.
What you will want to do is plug the sock into the USB cable for around 30 minutes.
This will make sure that the sock has enough power to hold on to the connection with the base station and it won’t disconnect any further.
Additionally, make sure that you’re attaching the USB cable correctly, both into the sock and the power adapter into the power source.
Note: You can also track whether the sock is charging or not, by looking at the same LED.
Your baby’s crib may be too far away from the base station, causing the sock to often disconnect.
You will have to reposition either the base station around 10-15 meters away from the baby’s crib or the baby’s crib itself.
Either way, you will have to position these two at least 10 meters away from each other.
You can go beyond 10 meters, but the WiFi may become significantly slower and the live updates in the Owlet app may also fall behind.
Note: Don’t put the base station in reach of the baby’s crib to avoid having your child damage it accidentally.
There could be a problem with the base station’s power that is causing the Owlet sock to disconnect.
If that’s the case, you should perform a power cycle on the station to solve the problem.
Here’s how to power cycle your Owlet base station in easy steps:
- Go over to the base station.
- Disconnect the power adapter of your base station.
- Standby for around 5 minutes until your base station gets discharged.
- Re-attach the power adapter back into the respective wall outlet.
Note: If you’re hesitating that there might be a power problem with the base station, plug it into an alternative outlet if possible.
Since the connection between your Owlet sock and base station undergoes through an application (the Owlet app), a problem with that platform may be causing you trouble.
We suggest reinstalling the application to solve the problem.
Here’s how to reinstall the Owlet app on your mobile device:
- Go into the storage section, in the settings of your device.
- Access the applications manager.
- Locate the Owlet app.
- Tap on “Actions” and choose “Uninstall” for the Owlet app.
- Wait for the app to be removed.
- Go into the Google Play/App Store (based on the type of your smartphone).
- Download Owlet again.
Note: Ensure that your device has enough storage by the time you’re downloading Owlet.
If nothing from our solutions worked so far, we suggest performing a factory reset on the base station.
This will wipe out any existing interference, software troubles, etc.
Here’s how to perform a factory reset on your Owlet base station:
- Go over to your Owlet base station.
- Press the large button along with the small button simultaneously.
- Hold them both down for 10 seconds.
Note: The reset will clear out all network credentials and you will have to reconnect the Owlet sock to the station again.
To fix an Owlet sock that disconnects from the base station, charge the device, and power cycle the station. Remove any WiFi interference and reposition the baby’s crib or base station. Reinstall the Owlet app and then factory reset the base station.
