Is your Logitech Circle View doorbell overheating? You’re not alone!
For a long time, it’s been clear that Logitech Circle View operational temperatures are high which sometimes endangers the device.
However, the doorbell is designed to restart and stop the operation upon reaching a certain thermal margin, to reduce the temperature.
When your Logitech Circle View is overheating you should prevent direct sunlight and tweak the settings to lower the temperature. Then you should relocate your doorbell to a non-metallic surface and stop some features to relieve the workflow.
Let’s now learn more about why the Logitech Circle View overheats and how to stop it.
Why Does The Logitech Circle View Doorbell Gets Hot?
When your Logitech Circle View doorbell has been working for a while you will notice that the device is warm on touch.
This is normal, as long as the device starts restarting as a result of overheating. This is a common problem that the community has been discussing for years now.
The Logitech Circle View doorbell is getting hot mainly because of direct sunlight exposure during the summer seasons.
There are other factors that can contribute to a higher temperature including:
- Ambient temperature
- Outdated doorbell firmware
- Status light & Night vision
- Bad transformer
The good news is that such a long-time problem comes with an easy solution.
Let’s proceed with the best methods to lower the temperatures of your Logitech Circle View doorbell.
Note: The Logitech Circle View has higher operational temperatures than other doorbells.
How To Stop Logitech Circle View Doorbell Overheating?
To completely stop the overheating you should apply ALL of the methods which combined should prevent your Logitech from heating up that much.
We’ll start with the easiest methods to execute and proceed with more significant and efficient solutions.
Method #1 Prevent Sunlight Exposure
The very first approach against the problem should be preventing direct sunlight exposure on your Logitech Circle View doorbell.
It might not be necessary to relocate the device at the early stages of the troubleshooting but to start, make sure to prevent the sunlight.
You can use a temporary cover to block the direct sunlight and perform a 1-hour test to determine whether that’s the problem.
Do not cover the device with a blanket since such an enclosure prevents ventilation and increases the heat.
Tip: Users often position an object just to block the direct sunlight towards the device.
Method #2 Reset Circle View Doorbell
Because of the many reports towards Logitech in regard to the Circle View doorbell overheating, they’ve released several updates.
Those updates include relieving the operation of the doorbell contributing to lower temperatures and less heat.
You could have missed some of these updates and to receive them you’ll need to reset your doorbell.
Press and hold the right-side button of the Logitech circle and release it when the light flashes in purple and green.
Then you’ll need to reconnect the device to the Home App and perform a heat test to determine whether the overheating would continue.
Note: Due to the Home app integration the Logitech Circle View updates automatically.
Method #3 Lower Ambient Temperature
Even when there is no direct sunlight exposure, the ambient temperatures could be high enough to overheat your Logitech Circle View doorbell.
Here are some methods that users reported to be helpful:
- In enclosed spaces, create air ventilation by opening windows.
- Take away heat-conductors near the Logitech Circle View doorbell.
- Clean the doorbell and remove anything that covers the device to reduce heat.
- Re-attaching the doorbell to a different surface.
The best way to determine whether the environmental temperatures are responsible is to temporarily relocate the device.
Use another spot even on the same door or check whether the surroundings create a hot environmental spot.
Tip: Wood and non-metal materials are the preferable surfaces to attach to the Logitech Circle View doorbell due to their non-heat conductive nature.
Method #4 Turn OFF Night Vision
Night vision is an automatic feature that enables whenever the ambient light in the doorbell’s environment is low enough.
Hence, night vision usually works at night.
- Night vision is a resource-consuming option, increasing the heat.
However, in rare cases due to low ambient light, the night vision could be active and when combined with higher environmental temperatures, things get hot.
You can turn OFF the night vision in the Home app > Devices > Doorbell > Night Vision.
Note: Without night mode and ambient light, the camera will have a hard time detecting motion during the night.
Method #5 Turn OFF Status Light
Another potential feature that increases the heat of your Logitech Circle View is the Status Light of your camera.
The light changes color depending on the doorbell’s mode and also contributes to producing more heat.
Turn OFF the Ambient Light in the Home app > Devices > Doorbell > Camera Status Light.
When the lights of your Logitech Circle View are OFF, perform another 60 minutes test to determine whether the overheating would persist.
In case your camera is still very hot and continuous to cause issues, proceed with tweaking the recordings.
Tip: You can enable the status lights during the night when the ambient temperature is lower to increase the doorbell’s camera visibility.
Method #6 Tweak The Recordings
The recording on your Logitech Circle View is one of the main features but also the main resource-consumer.
You have a few options when it comes to tweaking the recording options:
1. OFF
Completely disable the stream and recordings. The best option for lowering temperatures.
2. Detect Activity
The camera of your doorbell will record only when it detects motion. This option also engages the sensors which produce even more heat.
With this option enabled, the recordings could be actively triggered by non-human objects such as three leaves, birds, and pets.
3. Stream
Nothing is recorded but the live stream will continuously provide a live feed contributing to higher temperatures.
4. Stream & Allow Recordings
Enabled live stream with an option for motion detection by creating recordings and enabling notifications.
The best way to lower the temperatures is to set the recordings to OFF.
However, with Detect Activity you need to pay close attention to constantly moving objects and prevent something from triggering the recording option over and over again.
Note: You can manually disable recordings during the hot summer hours and enable the security only when necessary.
Method #7 Upgrade Transformer
Upgrading your transformer has been one of the most efficient solutions for many users.
Even if counterintuitive, the transformers with less voltage produce more heat for your doorbell.
Users with 16V 10AV chimes reported that the overheating stopped after upgrading to a 16V 30AV transformer.
This is why you should check for possible alternatives.
In case the problem appears to be a factory fault as a result of a bad unit design, you should contact Logitech customer service for further assistance.
Make sure to report everything that you’ve already tried to save both instances time.
Note: Discuss with Logitech the possibility of upgrading the transformer and what would be the best next move.
Quick Recap:
To prevent the Logitech Circle View doorbell from overheating you need to stop direct sunlight and reset the device. Use a non-metal surface to attach the doorbell and stop the status light and night-vision mode from the Home app.
