Sometimes you might have to reset the Peloton Bike or Treadmill, and sometimes you find the Peloton factory reset not working.
That should be your way of making the device go back to normal functioning. What to do when it doesn’t work?
When the Peloton factory reset does not work, you must first ensure you are following the correct steps for the procedure. Further, it might be necessary to clear the data cache, update the device’s firmware, or use the alternative recovery mode on the Peloton device.
As you can see, the factory reset failing to work is not the end of your Peloton device.
Sometimes, there is only a small problem with the software/firmware, and you can fix it by following the solutions we provide in this guide.
Peloton Factory Reset Not Working – Reasons
Factory resetting the Peloton bike or Treadmill is essential when you notice its system has become slow or some functions are no longer working correctly.
One of the main things that call for a factory reset is when the calibrating protocol doesn’t help you calibrate well.
However, sometimes something else is wrong, and not even a factory reset works. When that happens, we can assume some potential causes.
Here is what we can tell you:
Incorrect Reset Procedure
It is common to err when performing a factory reset for the first time.
Perhaps you’ve pressed something wrong, and the bike is not following the reset procedure until the end.
Software Issues
As weird as it sounds, a software issue can be a cause behind the factory resetting not working or not completing.
Then it calls for a firmware update before anything else.
Hardware Issues
A hardware issue is the last thing you want to happen to the Peloton bike or Treadmill.
It means that something in the machine’s inner circuits is out of place, and then you must have it serviced.
How To Solve The Peloton Not Resetting?
There are a few things you can try when your Peloton device is not resetting correctly. All of them involve dealing with software.
We do not recommend that you try to examine the hardware, as that is a job for experts.
Solution #1: Ensure You Apply The Correct Procedure
How to reset the Peloton bike? Each Peloton device has a correct way of factory resetting, which you should follow strictly.
If you overlook any step, you might end up with a bike or Treadmill that still shows the same mistakes.
How To Reset Your Peloton Device
Even though the Bike, Bike+, and Treadmill are different devices, their resetting method is the same.
- Press and hold the power button on the top of the screen;
- Touch on “Shutdown”;
- Now hold both the Volume Up and Power buttons;
- Release them once the Peloton logo appears;
- Once in Recovery Mode, scroll down to “erase data/factory reset”;
- Press the power button to choose the option;
- Select “Yes”;
- Tap on “Reboot system now.”
Perhaps you have forgotten to erase data or choose factory reset when you’ve tried to reset it.
Those are crucial to ensure the Peloton Bike or Treadmill gets rid of old data and starts functioning normally again.
Solution #2: Clear The Device’s Cache
Perhaps the factory resetting can’t work because some other corrupted files or code lines are preventing the procedure from being successful.
In that case, a great option is clearing the cache manually.
Normally, resetting will immediately clear the cache.
However, you can clear the cache without resetting by doing this:
- Tap the three dots on the Peloton screen;
- Go to “Apps”;
- Now choose “Peloton”;
- Press where you see “Storage”;
- Now choose “Cached storage.”
- Confirm to delete the cached data;
After doing that on the Peloton screen, you must unplug the device for 10 to 15 seconds.
Doing such will help the system to reestablish and create new data when you start using the bike/tread again.
Tip: Cleaning the cache is also useful when you recalibrate your bike. That will guarantee it will work smoothly with the new calibrated settings.
Solution #3: Update The Firmware
Firmware updates are responsible for improving how the software communicates with the hardware.
For example, in the case of Peloton, it can affect how accurately the software reads your exercise sessions. Moreover, updating the firmware also gets rid of bugs.
Thus, if you are facing a situation where some sort of feature won’t work (such as a factory reset), updating the firmware is a great idea.
Check For Updates On Peloton Bike And Peloton Tread+
Some steps will vary between Peloton models.
Here are the steps you can use to check for updates on the Peloton Bike or the Peloton Tread+:
- Tap “Settings” on the Peloton screen (top right corner);
- Now choose “Device Settings”;
- Choose “About tablet” (in the System section);
- Tap on “System update”;
If any update is available, a pop-up window will show up asking you if you want to update.
Simply confirm you want to update, and then your device will take the time to do it.
Check For Updates On Peloton Bike+ And Peloton Tread
The steps you must follow to check for updates on the Peloton Bike+ or Peloton Tread (regular model) differ just a bit from the above.
Here you go:
- Tap “Settings” on the Peloton screen (top right corner);
- Now choose “Device Settings”;
- Tap on “System”;
- Tap on “System update”;
A pop-up window will show up to let you know when an update is available. If it is, you must confirm that you wish to update.
Remember that the updating process might take a while.
Solution #4: Alternative Recovery Mode
Perhaps you need to reset the Peloton bike or Treadmill, but none of the solutions above has helped much.
In that case, there is something in the Peloton software called recovery mode.
As you can imagine, accessing it allows you to restore the device’s main configurations to the factory presets.
Peloton Bike
You can follow the steps above to access the recovery mode on any model of the Peloton bike:
- Unplug the power cable from the back of the bike;
- Wait for 30 seconds and then plug the power cable back in;
- Turn on the power button located on the back of the bike;
- Wait for the screen to display the Peloton logo;
- Press and hold the Volume down and the “back” buttons simultaneously;
- Release both buttons when the screen displays “Android Recovery.”;
Once you’ve reached the Android Recovery mode, do the following:
- Use the volume buttons to navigate to “Wipe data/factory reset”;
- Press the power button to select it;
- Select “Yes”
- Wait for the process to complete.
After the process is complete, the screen will show the option "reboot system now."
You must select it and press the power button to restart the bike.
Peloton Treadmill
There is a similar procedure you can try on your Peloton Treadmill.
It is comparable to the Recovery Mode, although the words “recovery mode” won’t show up.
Do the following:
- Unplug the power cable from the back of the Treadmill;
- Wait for at least 30 seconds;
- Plug the power cable back in;
- Hold the “Stop” and “Speed +” buttons simultaneously;
- Release the buttons only when the screen displays “Factory Settings.”;
- Press the “Incline +” button to confirm the reset;
- Wait for the process to complete;
After the process is complete, the screen will display “Please Wait,” and the Treadmill will automatically restart.
Note: Even if the process takes too long, don't disconnect the Treadmill or try to power it off during it.
