Airpods Not Connecting To Peloton? – Complete Fix Guide

Finn Wheatley Updated onJanuary 14, 2025
airpods not connecting to peloton

Are your AirPods not connecting to Peloton? Unfortunately, that issue is common because the Peloton software is based on Android, and AirPods are made for iOS. However, they still should work together!

To get the Airpods to connect to the Peloton bike, you must first ensure the correct conditions on the Airpods. If they are not at fault, you must power cycle, clear the cache data, or reset/update the Peloton firmware.

As you can see, getting the Airpods to work with the Peloton bike will not take much work.

The issue you are facing is most certainly software-related, so you won’t need to get new AirPods or send your Peloton to maintenance.

Each situation has different reasons. Before proceeding to the solutions, it is important to learn what those reasons are:

✅ Already Paired to a Different Device

Bluetooth devices can’t connect to one device when they are already connected to another.

✅ Low Battery

Peloton will only recognize the AirPods if their battery is full or close to full.

✅ Bluetooth Issues

There might be Bluetooth connectivity issues in place, whether on the Peloton bike or the AirPods.

✅ Software Issues

The Peloton software might be facing issues with recognizing Bluetooth devices.

✅ Corrupted Firmware

The AirPods firmware might be corrupted. Thus it needs to be reset or updated.

The lack of connectivity between AirPods and Peloton is usually a matter of resetting one of the devices or ensuring certain settings.

So let’s see what options you have.

1. Ensure The Airpods Have Enough Charge

According to Peloton, the Bike is less prone to recognize your Airpods when their battery is low.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to tell how much charge your AirPods have exactly unless they are fully charged.

ensure the airpods have charge

So if you have just acquired your first Airpods, pay attention:

  • Green light means they are fully charged;
  • An amber light means there is less than a full charge.

So you must put the AirPods into the charging case until their light is green. After that, try pairing them with the Peloton again.

2. Reset The Airpods

Resetting the Airpods is a good solution for two reasons: you might have left the Airpods connected to another device, or they present a connectivity issue.

Here is how to reset your Airpods:

  1. Insert the Airpods in the charging case;
  2. Close its lid;
  3. Open after 30 seconds;
  4. Put the AirPods in your ears;

Follow To The Hard Reset

If, after the steps above, the Airpods still won’t connect, do the following:

  1. Put the Airpods in the case again;
  2. Don’t close it;
  3. Hold the setup button (on the case’s back) for 15 seconds;
  4. Wait for the status light to flash amber and then white;

Don’t remove the AirPods from the case yet. Instead, keep them there and try to connect to the Peloton bike.

Tip: Further, you can also use the resetting method when your AirPods are not charging correctly.

3. Update The Airpods

The Airpods might malfunction because of the lack of an important firmware update. Airpods can only be updated when connected to another Apple device.

You will have to do the following:

  1. Put the Airpods into their charging case;
  2. Connect the case to a power source;
  3. Activate the Bluetooth functions;
  4. Pair them to your iPhone (or other Apple device);

If your iOS device is updated, the AirPods will also download an update.

4. Use An Alternative Reset Method

In Solution #2, we discussed the resetting method Apple recommended.

However, there is also a resetting method for the Airpods in conjunction with Peloton, which the latter brand recommends.

Here are the steps:

  1. Ensure the Airpods are not connected to any device;
  2. Put the Airpods in the case (with the lid open);
  3. Hold the case’s back button for 3-5 seconds;
  4. Wait for the light to blink amber three times;
  5. Put the AirPods back into pairing mode;
  6. Close the case;

5. Power Cycle The Peloton

power cycle the peloton

Perhaps the issue is not on the AirPods. In that case, you must assume it is a connectivity issue on the Peloton.

  • The first troubleshooting method you should try is power cycling it.

Peloton recommends the following steps for an efficient power cycle:

  1. Turn the Bike off;
  2. Unplug the adapter from the Bike’s base;
  3. Let it rest between 30 seconds and 1 minute;
  4. Connect the Bike again;
  5. Power it on.
Note: A power cycle is helpful so the Bike can refresh its hardware and software functions. The Bluetooth chip and firmware will be able to refresh too.

6. Clear Peloton’s Cache Data

clear the peloton cache

After refreshing Peloton’s system, the Airpods may still not be connecting. We can attribute that to Peloton’s cache data being filled with too much data or corrupted.

Then here is what you will do to clear the cache data:

  1. Touch the screen’s Wi-Fi icon;
  2. Choose “Settings”;
  3. Now touch “Device settings”;
  4. Click on “Apps”;
  5. Select “Peloton”;
  6. Choose “Force Stop”;
  7. Go to “Storage”>choose “Clear Cache.”

After that, you must power the Peloton Bike off and on again. By clearing the cache, all of the malfunctioning features should be re-established.

7. Reset The Peloton

Suppose the Airpods will not connect to Peloton even after all the steps above. Then it is time to try resetting the Peloton Bike.

There is more than one way to do it, so you can try them until the issue is fixed:

  1. Hold the power button;
  2. Select “Shutdown”;
  3. Hold the “Power” and “Volume up” buttons;
  4. The Peloton logo should appear;
  5. Release the buttons;
  6. Ensure that the Bike has entered Recovery mode;
  7. Go to “erase data/factory reset”;
  8. Touch the power button;
  9. Click on “Yes”;
  10. Choose “Reboot system now.”

Alternative Reset Method

If the first resetting method didn’t get the Bluetooth functionality to recognize your Airpods, you could try this:

  1. Unplug the power adapter;
  2. Let it rest for 30 seconds;
  3. Plug it back;
  4. Power the Bike on;
  5. The screen must show the Peloton logo;
  6. Hold the “Volume down” and the “Back” buttons;
  7. Let go of both buttons when the screen displays “Android Recovery.”;

Next, you will have to do this:

  1. Choose “Wipe data/factory reset”;
  2. You will be asked to confirm.

8. Update The Peloton

Update Through The App

Suppose you have the Peloton Bike already connected to the Peloton App on your phone. In that case, you can also proceed to update it.

update through the app

It is useful if the Bike’s system is bugged and unable to update from the screen.

  1. Open the Peloton app;
  2. Click on the gear icon (settings);
  3. Go to “Bike Settings”;
  4. Select “Firmware update”;
  5. Select “Update now”;
  6. Allow it and choose “Update firmware”;
After the update is successful, you will have to choose to restart the Bike. That way, the update will take effect.

What We Learned

It is common for users to report Airpods not connecting to Peloton. That is, in part, because the way AirPods connect via Bluetooth differs from the standard.
