Maytag Dishwasher Leaking From Bottom Of Door – Solution!

Tip: Follow the solutions in chronological order!

1. Check The Door Latch

Check your dishwasher’s door latch to see if it is bent, loose, or damaged, as this could cause the dishwasher door to leak from the bottom.

If it is loosely attached, tighten it to see if it stops leaking; otherwise, if it is broken, try replacing it with a new one.

Note: Make sure to unplug your appliance before doing any troubleshooting!

Here is how to check the Maytag dishwasher door latch:

1. Open the dishwasher door and locate the door latch.
2. Check to see whether the latch is damaged or misaligned.
3. Then close the door and check whether the latch engages.
4. Also, test whether the door latch is holding the door securely.
5. Start a wash cycle on the dishwasher and try depressing the switch.
6. In case the door latch is defective or broken you’ll need a replacement.

Tip: Try applying a bit more force when closing the door but don’t overdue!

2. Inspect The Door Gasket Seal

Over time, the dishwasher door gasket seal becomes clogged with dirt or begins to corrode, which might damage its functionality and cause the Maytag dishwasher leaking from the door.

4. Pull the paper and check if it is easy to pull the paper out.

3. Use Only the Correct Detergent

• Simply take out some dishes from your dishwasher!

5. Level Out the Maytag Dishwasher

Most dishwashers leak because they are not leveled properly. Maybe your dishwasher is unbalanced, causing water to collect on the sides and cause a leak from the bottom of the door.

The solution is simple and all you have to do is simply measure and level your dishwasher.

• Adjust the leveling legs of the dishwasher to set up them at an equal height.

When you’re ready use a leveler to check whether the Maytag dishwasher is leveled and then run a wash cycle to test whether the appliance will leak.

6. Unclog Dishwasher Components!

Clogging of drainage components such as filters and spray arms can frequently prevent the dishwasher water from draining, and cause the stuck water to leak from the bottom of the door.

Check Filter For Clogging:

1. Unplug the appliance from the power outlet. 
2. Open the dishwasher door and remove the lower rack.
3. Find the filter at the bottom of the unit.
4. Hold and turn the filter counterclockwise.
5. Rinse the filters under lukewarm water.
6. Optional: soak the filter in soapy water for 10 minutes. 
7. Then scrub the filter using a soft brush.
8. Rinse the filter to clear out the dirt

Check Spray Arms For Clogging:

1. Remove all the racks from the dishwasher.
2. Find the spray arms in your appliance.
3. Then release the mounting tabs of the spray arms.
4. Then take out all the spray arms. 
5. Rinse the spray arms under lukewarm water.
6. Use an old toothbrush and gently scrub the spray arms.
7. Use the screwdriver or toothpick to clear stuck debris.
8. Then wash the spray arms to free them from dirt.
9. Connect the spray arms back to their places.

Reminder: Test by running a wash cycle after unclogging to check whether it’s leaking!

7. Inspect the Water Line Connection

If unclogging the dishwasher filter and spray arms does not resolve the leaking issue, check your unit’s water line connection because maybe it is loosely attached or completely clogged.

If that happens then surely that’s the reason why Maytag dishwasher leaks from bottom of door.

Here is how to check the Maytag dishwasher water lines connection:

Check Drain Line Connection:

1. Turn off the dishwasher from the power and water supply.
2. Locate the draining hose from the dishwasher’s back.
3. Remove the drain hose from the back of the dishwasher. 
4. Then disconnect the drain hose from the garbage disposer.
5. Run lukewarm water inside the drain hose.
6. Next, take a long brush and scrub inside the hose. 
7. Then wash the hose with water to remove all the dirt.

Check Inlet Line Connection:

1. Remove the hose from the back of the sink using a wrench.
2. Look into the hose using a flashlight for blockages.
3. First, run the warm water inside the inlet hose.
4. Then put a mix of warm water + vinegar inside the inlet line.
5. Let the mix sit in the inlet hose for about 10 minutes.
6. Then hold a soft and long bristled brush to scrub the hose.
7. Again, run the water inside the hose to throw the dirt.

8. Test the Dishwasher Float Switch!

Check the float and float switch in your dishwasher as they keep track of the water level and prevent the dishwasher from overflowing.

Maybe the float or the float switch is defective, and that’s why your dishwasher is overflowing and leaking from the bottom of the door.

How to Check the Float Switch?

1. Unscrew the rear panel of the dishwasher.
2. Find the float switch from the right side of the unit.
3. Disconnect the wires from the float wires.
4. Then unscrew the float switch and take it out.
5. Test the float switch for Continuity via Multimeter.

This is extremely easy and only requires you to connect the two probes of the multimeter with the float switch terminals.

Then, if the meter shows a zero reading, the float switch is well and functioning but if there is an “infinity” or “no reading”, perhaps the switch is faulty.

Info: The replacement of the float switch is simple and only requires the user to have an orientation when connecting the wires to the terminals. 

That’s why it’s good to take an image of the wires.
