Solution #1 Check Microwave Door Switch
The Microwave Door is the first component you should check because a properly closed door signals other components to start operating and producing heat.
Your microwave door might not be closed because of an obstruction or because the interlock switch is defective!
Here is how to check the Kitchenaid microwave door & interlock switch:
- Unplug your microwave from the Power Outlet.
- Open the microwave door and push the door hook and check if they are working fine.
- If they are, then remove the turntable, rack, and support from the microwave.
- Unscrew the microwave screws from the cabinet and then they take the microwave out.
- Unscrew the top panel of the microwave using Philip’s screwdriver!
- Unscrew the left side panel to get access to the switch.
- Locate the door retaining tab and hold them back to release the switch from the holder.
- Note down the orientation of the wires and then disconnect all the wires from the switch.
- Test the switch via a Multimeter for continuity!
If there is continuity then the door switch has no fault, move on to the next solution.
If the switch has no continuity, then set up a new door switch and connect the wires to it.
Note: Don’t forget to screw the left side and top panel back tightly!
Solution #2 Check The Control Settings
There are different options available for you to set the Power Level for the Kitchenaid microwave.
There is a chance that you have accidentally enabled an operational mode that is now preventing the Kitchenaid microwave from fulfilling its tasks!
- There are 2 x operational modes – DEMO Mode & Control Lock Mode!
Exiting DEMO Mode:
- Tap on TRY THE PRODUCT.
- Go down to ExPLORE.
- Find and select TOOLS.
- From there tap on INFO.
- Choose STORE DEMO MODE.
- Switch to OFF, and confirm with YES.
Turning OFF Control Lock:
Simply tap and hold the CANCEL for at least 4 seconds, until you hear a sound!

Alert: Don’t test the high voltage diode, if you are not professional because the diode has an electrical current even when the appliance is unplugged!
Here is how to test the high-voltage diode in the microwave:
- First, make sure to unplug your microwave from Power Outlet.
- Unscrew the microwave top grill screws and take out the cover.
- Next, open the microwave door and keep that open.
- Unscrew the microwave control panel screws.
- Lift the panel up to detach it from the microwave.
- Next, unscrew the microwave’s inner access panel screws and remove its cover.
- Now, first, you need to release the charge from the capacitor to avoid any danger.
- To release the charge, use any screwdriver with an insulated handle.
- Place the screwdriver on the terminal but make sure not to contact the screws.
- Next, unscrew the diode screw and washer.
- Then, disconnect the diode from the capacitor.
- Use a Multimeter and test the diode for continuity.
In case the high voltage diode has no continuity, then replace the diode with a new one and reassemble all the components back and close the microwave.
If there is continuity, install the component back into the appliance and read the next solution!
Solution #4 Replace The Thermal Fuse
If your Kitchenaid microwave still won’t heat up after attempting all of the aforementioned fixes, check the Thermal Fuse.
It’s possible that your microwave’s fuse blew from overheating, which is why when you’ve recently noticed that the Kitchenaid microwave drawer not heating.
Here is how to replace the Kitchenaid microwave thermal fuse:
- Unplug your appliance from the Power Breaker and take it out of the cabinet.
- Unscrew the rear back panel of your microwave to locate the Thermal Fuse.
- Use a flathead screwdriver and disconnect the wires from the fuse.
- Take out the fuse and test it via a Multimeter, if there is continuity, then it is working fine.
- If not, then set up a new fuse and connect the wires to it.
- Screw the back panel and place your microwave back in the cabinet to test it.
Tip: You can find thermal fuses online but be sure to check the models supported.
Solution #5 Inspect Microwave Magnetron
The Kitchenaid microwave Magnetron is the main component that’ll heat the food because it takes high voltage and uses that frequency to cook the food.
Every piece has a lifespan, the same as for magnetron and when it goes faulty, it won’t heat and is likely to blow a fuse!
Here is how to test the Magnetron in the Kitchenaid microwave:
- Unscrew the microwave mounting screws and take the microwave out of the cabinet.
- Remove the power, grounding wires, and conduit cable from the Junction Box.
- Unscrew the back of a thin metal retainer to fully remove the inverter Board Cover.
- Disconnect the right side panel to take it out.
- Unscrew the Magnetron Cover that you’ll see in the front
- Next, release the Side Retaining Tabs to release the Control Board.
- Remove the retaining spring to lift up the microwave bulb.
- Then, unscrew the power supply board plate screws and place them aside.
- Also, disconnect the communication wire from the microwave user interface board.
- Next, detach the Ampere Actuator by turning it clockwise from the vent assembly.
- Unscrew the cavity vent assembly screws and then take that vent out.
- Disconnect the Wire Connector from the Magnetron.
- Unscrew the sensor from the magnetron.
When you’re ready, take out the magnetron and first test it via a Multimeter to check whether there will be continuity.
If the reading shows no continuity, replace the magnetron with a new one and reassemble all the components back in order as we have removed them.
Whenever your Kitchenaid microwave not heating, you’ll first need to make sure that the interlock switch has no fault and no mode is activated on the appliance.
The next step is to test the high-voltage diode, thermal fuse, and magnetron to discover and replace the faulty component.
