Here’s how to set up a schedule on your Kasa smart plug correctly:
- Open the Kasa application on your smartphone.
- Head over to the Devices page and then select Schedule.
- Once in the schedule lists, tap the “+” button to create a new schedule.
- First, set the correct time of when the event occurs.
- Select the power preferences for your smart plug in the schedule (whether this event shall turn your plug on/off).
- Choose the days of the week during which the schedule shall occur as well.
- Save the changes and exit the tab.
Note: Not having the selected days of the week will result in the schedule becoming a draft.
Running an older version of your Kasa might cause interference with the schedules.
That’s why the next thing you should do is update the firmware of your Kasa application to solve the problem with the schedules.
Here’s how to perform a firmware update of your Kasa application:
- On your smartphone that has the Kasa app, go to the App Store/Google Play.
- Type “Kasa” in the search field.
- Tap on the proven Kasa application that appeared as a search result.
- Instead of the download button, there should be an “Update” feature.
- Tap the update button once and wait.
Note: Updating your Kasa app might take a while and make sure not to cancel the update halfway to avoid corruption of your Kasa app’s data.
There could be an issue with the power of your plug, thus, it shuts down suddenly and does not perform the appointed event listed in the schedules.
That could happen due to a power shortage with your plug and an easy fix you can attempt is the power cycle.
Here’s how to perform a power cycle on your Kasa smart plug:
- Go over to your Kasa device.
- Unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for 60 seconds with the plug disconnect.
- Re-attach it to the source and test.
Pro Tip: Once the power cycle on your Plug is complete, attempt creating a short-time event to test if the schedule is working.
For Kasa to fulfill events appointed in the schedules section of the app, it must be connected to the internet.
Moreover, that network must be a 2.4GHz broadband, because Kasa’s smart plugs are still not compatible with faster WiFis.
Here’s how to reconnect your Kasa plug to the internet in easy steps:
- Open the Kasa app on your smartphone.
- Make sure to sign in to your cloud account if you haven’t yet.
- Go to the “Devices” tab and select your own smart plug.
- Tap on “Delete” to remove the smart plug and then hit the “+” button to re-add your Kasa.
- Select the model of your plug (H100, HS110).
- In the following screen, ensure your plug is powered up.
- Go over to your Kasa and check if the WiFi light is lit up.
- If it is, open the WiFi settings of your smartphone and connect with the plug’s WiFi (it is labeled with “TP-LINK_Smart Plug” and the model of the device).
- Once connected, head back to the Kasa app and you will see a list of networks.
- Tap on your own network and insert the key, after which, name your plug.
Note: The display name of your plug that you will set up on the last screen is how it is going to be discovered by other devices when turned on.
If you weren’t successful in resolving the problem with your plug by now, you should execute a factory reset to solve the scheduling problem.
That is going to erase all active schedules, including software configurations and data regarding your plug, located in the Kasa app.
Here’s how to reset your Kasa in easy steps:
- Go over to your plug and make sure it is working.
- Hold the reset button, locate it on the top of the device for 5 seconds.
- Wait for the amber blinks of the WiFi LED on your Kasa and release.
Note: Don’t unplug your Kasa from the source while the WiFi LED is still blinking, since this means that the device is resetting.
Thus, to fix schedules that aren’t working on Kasa smart plug, power cycle the device and delete all active schedules. Then create a new schedule to test with. If it does not work. re-add Kasa from the application and the WiFi followed by a factory reset.
