How to sync LED lights to one remote? When you have too many LED lights in your home, it is more convenient to attach all of them to a single controller.
There are many ways of doing that. When you still want a regular controller, getting an RF multi-zone controller is the best method. Further, you can also turn your phone into a controller.
Before choosing any method, it makes sense to look at each one we teach below.
You will certainly find the most comfortable for your environment.
How To Sync LED Lights To One Remote – Full Guide
As the number of LEDs in your house grows, you worry whether you can manage all of them easily.
You should pay attention to how you set the LED strips. There are two main ways:
- Join up to 10m of LED strips in each receiver
- Use multiple receivers with fewer strips each
Each method has a certain advantage, but everything will ultimately hang on what is the environment setup you envision.
In the steps below, we will teach all there is to know about syncing the same remote control to plenty of LED strips.
Method #1: Multi-zone RF Controller
An RF (radio frequency) remote control is preferable when you need to operate several strip lights from a single location.
A significant advantage of such a remote is that you can use it from any angle concerning the light strip’s receiver.
Ideally, you’d only hit one switch to activate every light in the place. Thus, using radio frequency (RF) remotes improves your success rate.
What Multi-zone Means
A multiple-zone control can control several zones, so you can sync many light strips with it.
Unlike a remote with just one zone, it allows for independent control of each strip.
For instance, you can program a remote with eight zones to operate eight separate systems.
The buttons range from 1 to 8, representing the digits 1 through 8. You can adjust each zone by pressing the appropriate numbered button.
How To Set Up
Any multi-zone controller will have a numbered pad. The numbers indicate how many zones you can set up.
Let’s take as an example a 4-zone controller while you have four receivers for your LED strips.
You can set all receivers to the same zone, each receiver to a different zone, or however you like.
To set many receivers to the same zone, do the following:
- Turn on the remote
- Click on zone one on the remote
- Click the learn button
- Click the color wheel
- Repeat the process for each subsequent receiver
Now you have many receivers synced to the same zone.
Note: Using same-brand LED strips improve the efficacy of any method described in this guide.
Method #2: Control Each LED Separately
We still will use the multi-zone controller for this method. However, this time you will have each different receiver set to a different zone.
Let’s say you have five different receivers and want to set each independently in the same remote controller.
Then do the following for the first receiver and zone:
- Turn on the remote
- Turn on the first receiver
- Click on zone one on the remote
- Click the learn button
- Click the color wheel
You will do the same process for the second zone and second receiver.
You must do the same for each receiver when you want each one to function separately.
Tip: Controlling each LED separately allows for great lighting effects.
Method #3: Control With A Single-Zone RF Remote Control
Perhaps you have plenty of LED strip lights and only a single-zone remote control.
If it is at least an RF control, it has a good range that allows you to control many lights simultaneously.
So, what you should do right now is sync each LED strip you have to your control.
Here is how to do that:
- Turn your LED receiver on
- Make sure the controller is in range
- Press Learn
- Do the same for all other LED receivers
Note: You must check whether your LED light controller can truly connect to more than one receiver. Its booklet should tell that.
Method #4: Using An IR Controller
Even though this method is not as cool as the others and its features are limited, you can still do it with some success.
The caveats are obvious: IR has less range, meaning you need to be very close to each LED strip so that the commands will work.
Moreover, it is not guaranteed that your IR controller will activate all lights simultaneously.
Before proceeding, make sure your controller supports more than one receiver synced.
Next:
- Turn your LED receiver on
- Make sure the controller is in range
- Press Learn
- Do the same for all other LED receivers
Using this method, you might be unable to turn all the synced lights on at once.
Note: If you sync two different LED strips in very distant rooms, you might be able to activate each one only when close enough.
Method #5: Connect LEDs Together
If your LED strips are already very close together, you can turn all of them into a whole system.
That can be done by soldering wires between strips, taping them together, or getting connectors.
The result for any approach is the same: you will have many LED lights in the same circuit, and thus you will be able to control them from the same remote controller.
Method #6: Turn Your Phone Into A Remote Controller
The easiest method also subverts what you were trying to do at first. For example, while remote controls are great, they lack features you can only find on phones.
Suppose you want to connect many LED strip lights seamlessly and control them however you like.
In that case, your phone is the undisputed best option. Tons of apps allow you to control your LED strip lights.
But, of course, it all depends on the technology available: IR, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi.
Control Via IR
Controlling via infrared requires your phone to have an IR blaster.
First, download the app Remote for LED Lights on PlayStore.
Next:
- Open the app
- Choose any layout
- Get close to your LED lights
- Point the phone
- Pair LEDs and app
Control Via Bluetooth
This method will work if your LED strips have a Bluetooth connection or a Bluetooth adapter.
Download the LED Magic Blue app and then:
- Turn your LED lights on.
- Turn your phone’s Bluetooth on
- Open the app
- Detect the LED lights
- Pair the app with them
Control Via Wi-Fi
This method will work if your LED strips have a Wi-Fi connection or adapter.
- Download Magic Home Pro
- Open the app
- Click the + at the upper right corner
- Select Add Device
- Choose the device showing up
- Select your Wi-Fi network and enter your credentials
Note: Your phone is also more reliable in working for a long time.
What We Learned
How to sync led lights to one remote? It is convenient setting all LED strips to a single controller to reduce the number of remote controls lying around.
You can rely on a multi-zone or a single-zone controller, but results will vary.
Moreover, you could even turn your phone into a remote controller to seamlessly control all lights.
