We will show the best methods you can employ when looking for how to control your LED lights with your phone.

Before that, you must ensure that your LEDs have some wireless connectivity or are compatible with a WiFi adapter.

Have you got a nice LED kit with an infrared receiver?

Alright, then, let’s move to the cool solutions you can use to control your illumination via phone!

Method #1: WiFi Adapter+Magic Home

LED lights can usually be controlled via infrared commands.

But buying a WiFi adapter will allow you to connect your illumination system to your network and control from a larger distance.

Infrared control is limited to 20 meters or so, while WiFi doesn’t have such restrictions.

So, the first thing you should do is buy a Smart WiFi LED Controller.

Installing it is simple:

  1. Connect it to a power source
  2. Connect the other end to your LED lights

After you installed the hardware, it is time you download the app:

  1. Turn the LED system on to power your WiFi adapter
  2. Scan the QR code on the adapter
  3. Download the app Magic Home

Add the Device

With the app installed, you can now add your LED lights to it:

  1. Open the app
  2. Click the + at the right upper corner
  3. Select Add Device
  4. Choose the device showing up
  5. Select your WiFi network and enter credentials
  6. Change the name of the adapter if you want

After you set it all up, the LED lights will show up on the homepage of your Magic Home app.

The app allows you to turn the lights on or off and click the device to get access to more options, such as changing the colors.

A great thing about this method is that you can name each LED system with a different name and control each separately.

Tip: If you have an Alexa-enabled device, you can add Magic Home as a skill and control your LED lights via voice!

Method #2: Lepro LampUX

Lepro is a brand that sells smart LED strip lights kits, and they have a special smartphone app if you want to know how to change LED lights with the phone.

The app is available for both iOS and Android. So, the first step is downloading the LampUX app on your phone.

LampUX lets you connect via two methods: EZ mode and AP mode. That means connecting the system to your router or using your phone as an access point.

EZ Mode

Here is how to set up the LampUX app in EZ mode:

  1. Turn on the LED strips and leave them be for 10 seconds
  2. Hold down the control’s power button for at least five seconds
  3. The lights will blink twice faster than normal.
  4. Sign up/login
  5. Click the + button
  6. Select the strip lights you want to add
  7. Click “Confirm indicator rapidly blink
  8. Enter the WiFi details.

AP Mode

  2. Keep the control’s power button down for at least five seconds
  3. Long press again
  4. You should see the lights switch to slow flash mode

After that, go to the app:

  1. Click the + button
  2. Choose the LED lights you want to add
  3. Choose AP mode
  4. Enter WiFi credentials
Note: Whenever you set up on Lepro/Lampux products, ensure you are using a 2.4GHz network.

Method #3: App To Control Via Infrared

Perhaps all you want is a simple way of replacing your broken/lost remote controller.

That is very easy and doesn’t require connecting your LED lights to the internet.

However, it requires you to ensure your LED lights have infrared receptors and your phone has an infrared blaster.

If they do, do the following:

  1. Download the app Remote for LED Lights on PlayStore
  2. Open the app
  3. Choose a layout that matches your previous controller
  4. Get close to your LED lights
  5. Point the phone
  6. Play with the configurations to see if it works
Note: Even though this app is on your phone, it uses infrared and not WiFi! That means you must be close to controlling the lights.

Method #4: Control Via Bluetooth

control via bluetooth

Some LED strip lights have the option of controlling via Bluetooth. Controlling via Bluetooth has some advantages over WiFi and infrared:

  • If your WiFi is down, the connection is lost
  • Infrared only works in close proximity

Although Bluetooth requires proximity, that will also depend on your Bluetooth device’s quality.

Once you buy your favorite Bluetooth LED strip lights, you must turn them on and download the dedicated app on your phone.

If your LED strip lights have Bluetooth but don’t have a dedicated app, you can download the generic LED Magic Blue app from the PlayStore.

Whatever app you will use, download it and do the following:

  1. Turn your LED lights on.
  2. Turn your phone’s Bluetooth on
  3. Open the app
  4. Detect the LED lights
  5. Pair the app with them

Now you are ready to control your LED lights via Bluetooth.

Tip: Check your LED lights’ Bluetooth range to ensure how far away you can control them.

Method #5: Use A Bluetooth Adapter

use bluetooth adapter

If the Bluetooth method is the most attractive to you, but your LED lights are not Bluetooth-compatible, you can buy an adapter.

After you buy a Bluetooth adapter for LED lights, connect it to a power source, and connect the other end to the LED lights.

  1. Turn your LED lights on.
  2. Turn your phone’s Bluetooth on
  3. Download the LED Magic Blue app
  4. Open the app
  5. Detect the LED lights
  6. Pair the app with them
Note: A Bluetooth adapter is less invasive than a WiFi adapter since it does not connect your LEDs to the internet, thus not giving access to hackers.
