Wondering how to connect AirPods to Oculus quest? Luckily for you, there is a pretty simple way to connect your wireless AirPods to Oculus.
In this post, we’re expanding the topic in a step-by-step tutorial including everything you need to know.
Even though Meta doesn’t mention compatibility with Bluetooth headphones, you can connect a Bluetooth device from the Oculus menu. Go to “Experimental Features” and tap the pair button. Search for your AirPods and connect with them.
If that was not enough to connect your AirPods, keep reading to see what you’re missing.
How To Connect AirPods To Oculus Quest?
The Oculus creators never had official support for Bluetooth headphones.
They admit that the device supports a 3,5mm jack as well as USB-C, type headphones but nothing about wireless connectivity.
However, there is an easy workaround to make the Oculus Quest connect with your AirPods in some simple steps.
Follow the instructions below to learn how it’s done:
Step #1 Turn On Your Oculus Quest
Your first task is to ensure that your Oculus quest is turned on.
In order to access the universal menu from which you can pair with your AirPods, the device must be running and equipped on your head.
You can turn on the device using the power button on the side, but before that, ensure the device has a full battery bar.
On average, Oculus Quest 2 might take up to 2 and a half hours to charge completely.
Tip: Your Oculus is running if the LED light beneath the power button is lit.
Step #2 Put Your AirPods Into Pairing Mode
There are a few tasks you must perform in order for your AirPods to become discoverable.
Follow the steps down below to put your AirPods into charging mode:
1. Disconnect From Any Devices
In order for the AirPods to appear in your Oculus menu, they must be disconnected from the Bluetooth of any previous device.
2. Full Battery
Similar to Oculus Quest, the AirPods must also be fully charged in order to function properly. They may take up to an hour and a half to reach full battery charge.
3. Opened Compartment
Lastly, to put your AirPods into pairing mode, they must be taken out of the charging case.
Once you’re done with these steps, let’s access your Oculus Quest 2 menu and get connected with the AirPods easily.
Step #3 Open The Universal Menu
Your next step is to access the universal menu of Oculus. That list of settings & features will allow you to execute various commands and configure connections regarding your device.
In order to open the universal menu, your headset must be equipped on your head and hold the Oculus button.
It might take up to 5 seconds for the universal menu to load & open.
After that, you will have a list of settings in front of your eyes. Proceed with the next step to hooking up the AirPods.
Step #4 Connect The AirPods
Once inside the Oculus menu, it’s time to connect your Bluetooth AirPods.
Keep in mind that Bluetooth connection wasn’t intended by the Oculus creators, so you might run into some troubles during the process.
Note: The feature is still “experimental”, and issues will not be officially supported, until a release.
To connect your AirPods to the Oculus quest 2 VR set, follow the instructions below:
- Head over to the Oculus settings menu and tap on the “Experimental Features”.
- Select the Bluetooth finder and grab your AirPods.
- Make sure they are out of the case.
- Press the pairing button on the back of the device.
- Wait for the AirPods to appear in the list of your Oculus.
- Tap on them once to connect.
Note: You will know when your AirPods become discoverable, as soon as their LED becomes white.
They will appear in the list of your Oculus under the name of “AirPods100” or just Apple AirPods.
After connecting your Oculus to the AirPods, determine if the connection is working and test them out.
If you’re quite disappointed with the result, make sure to tweak the audio settings.
Step #5 Configure Volume
After connecting your AirPods, you will most likely want to control the volume and configure audio settings.
Since Bluetooth is not officially supported by Oculus, you won’t be provided with a committed menu that will allow you to do that.
By using the volume buttons of the Oculus itself, you will be able to control the volume of your AirPods.
Unfortunately, that would be all the customization you would get, until Meta introduces official wireless headphone support.
Note: Using not supported products with Oculus, such as the AirPods, will NOT result in warranty void or support rejection from the manufacturer.
Step #6 Disconnecting The AirPods
You will want to disconnect the AirPods from your Oculus at some point. The easiest way to do that is, of course, putting them back into the charging case.
If you want to disconnect them for Oculus Quest manually, you will go to the same “Experimental Features” tab. Check if the connection with the AirPods is still active.
If yes, you will be able to disconnect the Bluetooth by tapping on the AirPods’ connection and clicking “Disconnect”.
This is how to connect and disconnect AirPods to an Oculus Quest and if something goes wrong and you cannot establish a connection, proceed further to learn why.
Why AirPods Are Not Connecting To Oculus Quest 2?
You’ve now learned how to connect AirPods to Oculus quest, but if you’re experiencing issues during the process, we’ve got you covered!
The problem could be related due to several factors, including a problem with the charge, pairing, or connectivity.
Here are some issues that could occur when connecting AirPods to Oculus:
Low Charge
Ensure both your Oculus and AirPods are charged to the maximum.
Out Of Range
Make sure that both AirPods are in close proximity to the Oculus while pairing.
Ear Detection
Removing one AirPod from your ear will cause the other one to disconnect temporarily. You can turn that feature off from the AirPods settings.
Already Connected

Hardware Problem
Test your AirPods with a different device to determine if they have any hardware issues.
If your AirPods are still not connecting, then there might be something wrong with one of the two devices.
