Crunchyroll AirPlay is currently unavailable and you’re wondering why?
We all know that you can download the Crunchyroll application on your iPhone/iPad, connect to the same network as your TV, and hit the AirPlay icon to stream your anime on a wide screen.
Sometimes the app says “AirPlay Is Currently Unavailable”!
Luckily this problem is well-known and can easily be solved with simple steps!
Crunchyroll shows the “AirPlay is Currently Unavailable” error when the internet speed is currently fluctuating or down. Another possibility for the issue would be the app files and firmware version, which sometimes require a fresh installation to start working!
Why AirPlay is Currently Unavailable Crunchyroll?
When the AirPlay feature in Crunchyroll is not available it will either be not working (excessive buffering) or will freeze after a couple of seconds of streaming.
For some users, the problem reflects an extremely bad quality or only the audio channels work with no video.
Test the AirPlay feature from a different application to learn more about the issue!
When other applications are working just fine with your TV setup, but only Crunchyroll is not quite getting there, we can assume that the problem comes from the smart app or host device!
More about the possibilities find below:
- Bad WiFi Connectivity
- Slow Internet Speed
- Outdated Crunchyroll App
- Corrupted Application Files
- Issue With Source Device
We’re going to explore each of these possibilities in the solution guide coming next:
Crunchyroll AirPlay is Currently Unavailable – Fast Solution!
The solution to the problem revolves around the Crunchyroll application, especially if the feature used to work just a couple of days ago.
For most users, this problem appeared out of a sudden without proper reasoning so let’s next learn how the community handled the situation.
Solution #1 Reboot Source Device & App
When something is not working, we should always start with the good old “did you try turning it off and on?” method.
In our case, we’re not only going to restart the app, but also our iOS source device, which could potentially help with the AirPlay error on Crunchyroll.
- To restart Crunchyroll, exit the app and remove the process from the memory.
- To reboot your iOS source device, hold the power button and slide on “Power OFF”
In addition, you can also restart your TV setup to provide a fresh start on everything. When the restarts are ready, open the Crunchyroll app and test whether the AirPlay is now working.
Tip: Test Signing Out/In from your Crunchyroll account to see whether this will help!
Solution #2 Use The Same WiFi
The AirPlay feature might be currently unavailable to connect to your TV because both instances are not using the same network.
In other words, your TV and iOS host device has to be connected to the same WiFi in order for the AirPlay to connect with the setup.
Connect iOS Source Device To WiFi:
- From the Home Screen, go to Settings.
- Tap on WiFi.
- Choose the WiFi of your TV Setup.
- Insert the Password and Connect.
Connect TV To WiFi:
- On your Smart TV, hit the Menu button.
- From there go to Settings.
- Select Network Settings.
- Choose Wireless Connection.
- Select the WiFi and Insert the Password.
With both devices connected to the same WiFi, test whether the Crunchyroll app AirPlay will continue to show “Currently Unavailable”.
In case it does, we’ll learn why in the next solution!
Solution #3 Clear Crunchyroll Cache
We’ll shift our attention towards the Crunchyroll application, now that we’ve excluded the other possibilities.
Before completely reinstalling the app, we should test by only erasing the cached data on your iPhone/iPad.
This might just be enough to get the AirPlay working in no time!
Here’s how to delete the Crunchyroll Cached Data:
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down to find and select the Crunchyroll app.
- Press on Clear History and Website Data.
- Confirm by pressing Clear History and Data.
- Scroll down and press Advanced.
- Choose Website Data.
- Press Remove All Website Data > Remove Now
- Go back in General > iPhone/iPad Storage.
- Select Crunchyroll and choose Offload App.
- Confirm by pressing Offload App again.
When you open Crunchyroll after you’ve cleared the Cache and website data, you’ll notice that you signed off your account.
Insert the login credentials enter and test the AirPlay now.
Tip: Repeat the steps for each application with weird behavior or unavailable features!
Solution #4 Update Crunchyroll App
The next step is to update the application to the latest firmware version in the App Store.
To do so we’ll need to open the App Store on our iPhone/iPad and use the magnifying glass search to locate the Crunchyroll app.
On iOS 16, instead of an “Open” button, there should be an “Update” button.
That means there is an available update for the Crunchyroll app that we cannot continue further without applying.
Since the majority of reports in regard to the “AirPlay Unavailable” concluded the problem was solved after performing the update, all users should do that now.
Note: The update takes time based on its size and internet connection speed.
Solution #5 Renew Subscription
We all know that AirPlay is a premium feature in the Crunchyroll app.
The subscription renewal is automatic and the billing goes smoothly, except when there are no available funds in your financial account.
In that set of thoughts, your Crunchyroll membership might be outdated.
- To check your Account Membership, select Profile > Settings!
This page will tell you everything about your Crunchyroll subscription, payment information, and billing schedule.
This way you’ll be able to exclude the possibility of an expired subscription.
Note: AirPlay is available during the 14-day free trial.
Solution #6 Reinstall Crunchyroll App
The final and most powerful solution against the “AirPlay Unavailable” problem in Crunchyroll is to completely delete the app from your host device and freshly download the software.
This will refresh ALL services including the AirPlay feature and with a bit of luck, the issue will be gone!
Here’s how to uninstall and install the Crunchyroll app on iOS:
- On the Home Screen, tap and hold the Crunchyroll app.
- When the icons start to juggle, tap on the “X” to remove the app.
- Confirm by tapping on “Delete”.
- Open the App Store and locate Crunchyroll.
- Press on the Cloud + Arrow Icon to download the app.
When Crunchyroll is freshly installed on your device, open the app and Sign In to your account to continue.
From there, check your premium membership and test the AirPlay feature.
Solution #7 Check If Servers Are Down…
In case the problem is continuous and AirPlay is not working or behaving in a weird way that makes the feature useless, you’ll need to check whether everything on their side is OK.
Use any free source online to check whether Crunchyroll is currently available.
All you need to do is type “Is Crunchyroll Down Right Now?” in Google and voila!
There are at least 3 or more sources that will tell you whether they can *ping* the website or not.
In other words, whether the Crunchyroll servers are up and running or something is currently wrong.
Note: Server maintances sometimes last several hours!
Crunchyroll Airplay Not Working Still…
Well, in case you’ve attempted everything but Crunchyroll AirPlay is still “unavailable” then there is one last thing that we can do.
We need to report our issue to Crunchyroll Customer Service.
You can submit a Crunchyroll Support Request by precisely describing your issue!
Make sure not to leave any fields empty and also share everything that you’ve already tried in this guide.
After a while, you should receive a reply message from a support representative on your email address to continue the conversation.
Hopefully, they will help!
Quick Recap:
Thus, the Crunchyroll app AirPlay won’t work when both devices are not connected to the same WiFi or when the app firmware is outdated. We’ve also learned that sometimes applications have to be cleanly reinstalled for some features to regain functionality.
Final Thoughts:
