Blink Mini Camera Not Connecting to WiFi? – Reasons & Causes
Before we jump in with the solutions, it’s good to review what could actually go wrong with your camera.
There are plenty of circumstances and particular situations that could interrupt the connection of your Blink Mini Camera with the router.
Let’s take a look at most of them!
- The camera isn’t receiving a Power Supply

What to Do When Blink Mini Camera Won’t Connect to WiFi?
In order to solve the problem, we’re going to undertake a few solutions that are proven to work against connectivity issues.
It’s important to follow the correct order of our solutions to achieve the results faster.
Let’s jump right in!
Solution #1 Add 2.4Ghz WiFi Band
The Blink Mini is only compatible with 2.4GHz networks!
Note: If your router is already set to broadcast 2.4GHz, move on to the next solution
That’s to say because most routers nowadays would mainly broadcast a 5GHz network, rather than only have 2.4GHz or dual-band.
This is one of the camera’ specifications that must be noticed before attempting to undergo a network setup. Let’s learn more about this!
How to set up 2.4GHz WiFi:
- Insert “192.168.1.1” in your computer browser.
- Press “Enter” to access the login page of your router.
- Use “Admin” for both username and password.
- Once in the router’s settings, go to Network.
- Then go to Advanced Network Settings.
- Press “Add WiFi” or “Create WiFi”.
- Set the new WiFi’s broadband to “2.4GHz”.
- Finish the set-up by completing the remaining steps.
Once you’ve created the new network, it will be discoverable by your Blink Mini Camera under the name you’ve selected. Connect with the configured password.
Note: Make sure to save the new WiFi password, to use in your camera setup!
Solution #2 Reboot the Network Router
The next thing that may be causing the problem is your Network Router/WiFi.
If there’s a connection problem, the main suspect tends to be your router and its inability to connect with the camera.
What you should try at this point is to perform an advanced reboot, which will technically discharge your network device and solve connection throttles.
How to reboot the network router:
- Use the Power Button on your Network Device (if it has one).
- Wait for the device to Shutdown.
- Disconnect the Power Adapter of the router.
- Wait for 5 Minutes while the router discharges completely.
- Re-install the power supply of the router.
- Attempt to connect your Blink Camera now.
After completing the reboot, make sure to tighten the power cable on both ends.
Loose connections may lead up to further power problems with your router so beware!
Note: Leave your router unplugged for as long as necessary to cool down!
Solution #3 Inspect Power Supply!
The Power Fluctuations are what could make your camera unreachable by the router!
We would strongly suggest having the entire power supply setup of your camera inspected.
This will help you identify faulty equipment in your camera’ setup that’s causing the outages!
The following power equipment of your camera must be inspected:
- The power source – Plug your camera into an alternative power source/outlet.
- The power adapter – Check for cable damages. Replace the adapter if faulty.
- The power cable – Inspect the adapter’s cable and replace it if damages were found.
Once you’re done with all of the following steps, check if your camera’s LEDs are blinking in any color.
If you could see any type of output from the camera, the device is functional.
Note: Upon startup, the device would display a blinking blue light if not paired to WiFi!
Solution #4 Reinstall Blink Home Monitor
Perhaps, we could identify the problem within the Blink Home Monitor mobile application.
Since this platform is what the camera uses to find its way to the router, any undergoing problem with the app may create a problem.
That’s why your next step in this guide would be to remove the Blink Home Monitor app from your mobile and then download it again!
How to reinstall Blink Home Monitor:
- Access the Settings of your mobile device.
- Navigate to Storage.
- Head into the Apps Section.
- Locate the Blink Home Monitor app.
- Press on “Functions” next to the app.
- Choose “Uninstall” to remove the platform.
- Head into Google Play/App Store on your mobile.
- Download the application again.
- Sign in and test connecting your camera.
If prompted during the download, make sure to select the latest version of the Blink Home Monitor app.
This will cause the most updated software of the app to be installed!
Note: Allow “Automatic Updates” for the Blink Home Monitor app when launched!
Solution #5 Disable VPN Services
Since your camera connects using your mobile device, an active VPN service would make the router unreachable.
In that set of thoughts, you must be using the original location on both of your devices in order to achieve connection results with a Blink Mini Camera.
Note: The location-altering services could also be an in-built setting on your device!
- Uninstall any VPN application on your device until the end of the guide!
Keep in mind that your network could also be impacted by an activated VPN even when the software is an “extension” on your browser.
This is why we can either turn OFF other devices connected to the network or locate and disable the VPN services.
Note: Also remove any third-party applications with location-altering services!
Solution #6 Reset Blink Mini Camera
Plug your Blink Mini Camera into the power and wait for the LED lights to display a blinking blue light.
In case the light remains steady green for 30+ seconds we would need to reset the camera so we can connect the device to the WiFi.
- Open the Blink Home Monitor app.
- Tap on the Settings Icon.
- From the camera’s settings select Change WiFi.
- Press and release the Reset button on the camera.
- Press on Discover Device.
- Join the temporary camera network.
- From there select your Home Network – WiFi.
- Enter the Password and press Join.
- You will see “Mini Camera Connected to WiFi”.
- Tap on Done.
The Blink Camera reset should be enough to get the device back on track and solve the connection problem.
However, it’s still important to check whether there are any ongoing WiFi or network issues on your side.
