Nothing is more frustrating than your Ring battery level not updating, but fear not and read!
Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with a simple troubleshooting guide to help you resolve this problem.
If your Ring battery level is not updating, check for a stable internet connection, ensure your app is up-to-date, and troubleshoot any app glitches or wiring issues that may be causing the problem.
The solution is to address all factors involved individually to properly troubleshoot your Ring device.
Let’s dive directly into troubleshooting!
What to Do When Ring Battery Level Not Updating?
1. Inspect the Internet Connection
The internet connection is like a communication bridge between your Ring device and the app!
If your devices have a poor or unstable internet connection, this will prevent your Ring from updating the battery status to the server.
So, you need to simply identify if your Wi-Fi network is properly functioning on all devices and that your Ring device is within range.
Here is how to inspect the internet connection:
Check the Internet on Ring App Device:
- First, connect your mobile to WiFi.
- Then, launch the web browser.
- Search anything on the browser.
- Lastly, check if the WiFi is working.
Check Internet on Ring Device:
- First, launch the Ring app.
- Tap on the Menu three lines.
- Then, press on “Devices”.
- Press on your Ring device.
- Find and tap on Device Health.
- Check the Signal Strength tile.
Important!
If you notice that your internet connection is not working on your devices then power cycle your router, or contact your internet service provider.
Proceed only with a proven WiFi connection!
2. Refresh the Ring Battery Status
If you have charged your Ring device for a few hours and the battery level in the app is still not updating, it could be due to software bugs or glitches.
Although the Ring app does not allow you to refresh the battery level, the best part is that there is a workaround to do so manually.
Here is how to refresh the Ring device battery level:
- First, open the Ring app.
- Tap on the Menu three lines.
- Then, tap on the Devices tile.
- Press on your Ring device.
- Then, tap on Device Health.
- Check the current battery level.
- Refresh the Ring battery level:
- For Ring Doorbell: Press your Doorbell button about two or three times.
- For Ring Camera: Move in front of your Ring to trigger the motion detection.
Info: It is likely for your Ring device to take some time in order to update the battery level, so remain patient until the process is completed.
3. Force Close the Ring Application!
Sometimes temporary issues with the Ring app, such as bugs, glitches, or cache conflicts can interfere and cause the app to display incorrect battery information.
All you have to do is simply force close the Ring app to refresh the app software and resolve software issues.
Here is how to force close the Ring application on any mobile:
- Use the phone with the Ring app installed.
- Then, navigate to your phone’s Settings.
- Next, scroll down and press on the Apps.
- Search for the Ring app and press on it.
- Locate and tap on the Force Stop button.
This process can freshly restart the app and resolve all app-related issues.
Then relaunch the Ring app and go to your Ring Device Health in the app and check for the updated battery level.
Tip: If your Ring battery level is still not updating, try clearing the App Data and Clear Cache!
4. Power Cycle Your Ring Device
The next step is to reboot your Ring device because, like the app, smart devices also develop bugs and glitches that might affect the device’s functionality.
This might be the reason why the battery level is not updating, therefore, rebooting your Ring device can be an ideal fix.
Here is how to reboot the Ring device:
- First, open the Ring app on your mobile.
- Tap on the “☰” menu icon (three lines)
- Press on Devices and tap on your Ring.
- Locate and tap on the Device Health tile.
- Go down and tap on Reboot This Device.
Within a few minutes, your Ring device automatically reboots and turns on.
Then open the Ring app and check for the battery level update.
If the battery level is still not updated, then refresh the battery status by performing the same steps we have discussed earlier in this guide.
5. Uninstall & Reinstall the Ring App
If you have tried all the above steps in the app but still your Ring battery level not updating then it is worth trying reinstalling the Ring app.
By erasing the Ring app and then downloading it cleanly, you’ll most certainly get the latest version so it’s a good technique to address multiple possibilities at once.
Here is how to uninstall and reinstall the Ring app:
Step #1 Uninstall the Ring App
- Go to the home screen on your mobile.
- Find the Ring app on the home screen.
- Then, press and hold onto the Ring app.
- Tap on the Uninstall or Remove buttons.
Note: On some Android models, you’ll have to drag the icon to the trash bin to delete it!
Step #2 Reinstall the Ring App
- Open the Play Store or App Store.
- Then, search for the Ring application.
- Tap on the Ring app when it appears.
- Tap on the Install button to download it.
When the app installation process ends then launch the app and sign in using your Ring user account details.
Then, check to see if the app has updated the battery status of your Ring!
6. Check the Weather Condition
Extreme temperatures or severe weather conditions can also impact the Ring device battery’s performance and reporting accuracy.
The Ring devices are very sensitive and obviously, their performance can get impacted by the two extremes – heat and cold.
If your Ring device is charging outdoors in extremely hot or cold weather then that’s why it just keeps on charging the device but doesn’t update the battery status in the app.
The Solution?
- Simply take your Ring from the outside and charge the device inside!
When you are sure that your device is fully charged and updating the battery level in the app then reinstall your Ring device back to its location.
Also, whenever you experience the same battery level issues in the app, then repeat the same way to charge your device.
7. Check the Ring Power Source
Inconsistent power supply to the battery-powered or wired Ring device may affect the battery’s charging process and cause inaccurate battery level reporting.
However, you don’t have to worry at all because the solution is simple and all you have to do is to inspect the power source.
Here is how to check the Ring device power source:
Steps for Battery-operated Ring Devices:
- First, open the Ring app on your mobile.
- Tap on the “☰” three lines > “Devices”.
- Select your Ring and then Device Health.
- Check your Ring device’s Battery Level.
If your Ring device battery is low even after charging it for a long time then possibly your unit battery or its charger is faulty.
Don’t worry, if you have another USB cable available at home, then try charging your Ring device with a different cable and power outlet in order to determine.
If the issue continues then you need to install the fresh battery in your Ring device!
Steps for Hardwired Ring Devices:
- Open the Ring app and tap on the “☰” three lines.
- Press on the Devices and select your Ring device.
- In Device Health, check the Transformer Voltage.
Note: Ring devices usually require 16 - 24 VAC volts for transformer voltage to charge and power sufficiently on the hardwired units.
8. Factory Reset Your Ring Device
If the battery level is still not updating, then you need to perform a factory reset of your Ring device.
Keep in mind that this step will permanently delete everything related to the Ring device from the application, so you’ll have to configure everything from scratch when ready.
Note: The resetting process of the Ring device may vary between models!
Here is how to factory reset the Ring device:
- Turn off the power supply to your doorbell.
- Unscrew the screws from your doorbell.
- Pull your doorbell from the wall bracket.
- Look for the Setup Button on your device.
- Hold down the setup button for 15 seconds.
When your Ring device resets then set it up in the app and connect it to the functional WiFi network.
If none of the above steps resolve your issues, reach out to Ring Support for help!
Quick Recap:
If your Ring battery level not updating, check the device’s internet connection, refresh the battery level, reboot your device, and force close the app. If the issue continues then reinstall the Ring app, charge your device indoors, and perform a factory restoration!
