Why Is The Philips Smart TV No Audio Output?
There are quite a few well-known causes that would prevent your TV from outputting audio.
Any connected audio third-party devices will alternate the audio settings of your Philips Smart TV so they could be the output sound device.
This way the audio would attempt to go through the device and if something is not working, the sound will be completely lost.
Having that in mind, let’s see what are ALL of the possibilities:
1. Glitch Or Bug
A software problem could prevent the TV from outputting any audio until a simple system restart.
2. No Output Device Selected
If you’ve connected a sound device to your Philips Smart TV, its audio might not be working or it’s not selected.
3. Audio Settings Problem
An issue with the audio settings could also prevent the Philips TV from having a sound output.
4. TV Speakers Issue
If there is an internal fault with the in-built speakers on the Philips TV, this could also result in audio output loss.
5. Additional Devices Connected
Connected third-party devices could also cause problems with the sound and audio output on the Philips TV.
Knowing the possible issues that could have occurred, let’s proceed with attempting to solve them.
How To Fix Philips TV No Audio Output?
Before we proceed with the actual solutions, make sure to restart the Philips TV via the remote power button. Wait for a few seconds and turn the TV back on.
If the issue is still there, proceed with the first solution:
Solution #1 Increase Philips TV Volume/Unmute
Before we get on with any of the more complex solutions, you should first check whether your TV is muted or has the volume all the way down.
You can easily determine if that’s the problem by pressing the volume buttons on the Philips TV remote along with the mute button.
Here is how to increase the volume on the Philips TV and check if the device is muted:
- Grab your Philips remote and ensure the TV is running.
- Point the remote towards the TV and press the mute button first.
- Press the mute button again, until the little “volume” icon doesn’t have a cross on it.
- Next, hit the volume/up button on the Philips TV remote 5-10 times.
Note: Make sure you haven’t left the Philips TV muted after executing the instructions above, cause otherwise, you won’t be able to tell when the audio output is back.
Solution #2 Soft Reset The Philips TV
A soft reset practically discharges the Philips TV out of any remaining electricity, therefore resolving any bugs or glitches that are causing audio output issues.
It works by unplugging your TV from the source for a short period.
Here is how to soft reset the Philips TV with detailed instructions:
- Turn OFF the Philips TV using the remote.
- Unplug the power adapter from the source.
- Standby for about 5 minutes.
- Reconnect the power adapter into the power outlet.
Note: Don’t cheat and wait at least 5 minutes, otherwise the so-called “power cycle” will not be as effective as it should be.
Solution #3 Disconnect Sound Devices
There could be a problem with third-party sound devices that are interfering with your TV’s audio output.
In that regard, you should unplug those devices from the TV, to determine if the problem is going to disappear.
Simply disconnect any soundbars, headphones, and even consoles attached to the Philips TV except the power adapter and test if the TV will now have sound.
Once done, restart your TV via the remote’s power button and head over to YouTube or “Watch TV” to test the sound.
Note: It is also recommended to unplug ALL third-party devices and not only the sound devices from the Philips TV until the end of this guide.
Solution #4 Select Default Sound Output Device
The audio settings on the Philips TV might have changed when connected to a third-party device.
That’s why you should check what’s the default sound output device and possibly select your TV as the default sound device.
Here’s how to change the default sound device on your TV:
- Go to the settings on your TV.
- Open the Sound tab and choose Devices.
- From there, choose “default sound device”, which is your TV’s in-built speakers.
Tip: We suggest choosing the in-built speakers on your TV for now until you figure out where’s the problem with your TV’s output.
Solution #5 Use PCM Audio Output
The next step is to change the digital audio output to PCM, on the Philips TV.
The PCM is a method for conversion from analog to digital audio and has a wide variety of supported audio channels which might just resolve your problem.
Here’s how to select PCM audio output on the Philips TV easily:
- Open the Settings on the Philips TV.
- Select Sound > Display & Sound, and then go to Audio output.
- Locate the Digital audio out feature and select it.
- Choose PCM in the drop-down tab.
Note: It’s recommended to have your TV restarted after reverting the audio output to apply the changes and fix the audio output problems.
Solution #6 Reset The Philips TV
If nothing worked so far, we suggest factory resetting the Philips TV. That’s a proven solution against any software issue on the Philips TV, including audio output problems.
Here is how to revert your Philips TV to factory settings:
- Head over to the Options of your device.
- Press on RESET AV SETTINGS.
- Next, select RESET.
- On the Philips remote, press the MENU.
- Wait.
Note: Make sure not to disconnect the Philips TV from the power during the reset.
Thus, to bring back the audio on the Philips TV, begin with hard resetting the device, then attempt to unmute/volume up the sound. Then make sure that your TV is the default audio output device and enable the PCM audio. As a last resort, perform a factory reset.
