We’ll be targeting each of the reviewed causes above in our individual solutions, so make sure that you’re following the chronological order of our guide.
In addition, pay attention and apply any instructions met in our notes, alerts, and tips we’ll be listing further on.
IMPORTANT: Make sure that your JBL Charge 4 speaker’s volume is increased as much as possible throughout the whole guide.
Let’s jump in with the guide!
Solution #1 Power the Speaker ON/OFF
The first and simplest task is to power OFF your speaker and then power it ON.
This will work as some sort of a power cycle to the device, but with the addition of rebooting all software services of the device.
Although it is a simple reboot process, it sometimes works flawlessly against the type of issue you’re experiencing.
- Simply locate the power button on your speaker and press it twice for 5 seconds!
The first time I press the power button, the speaker will shut down. Give the device around a 10-15 seconds interval in order to fully shut down and then press the power button again to power on the device.
After a few short seconds, the speaker will turn on.
Note: Do not overhold the power button since you may not get the speaker to turn on!
Solution #2 Plug JBL 4 into a Charger
Perhaps, your JBL Charge 4 is running low on charge!
Speakers for instance are well-known to not function properly when running low on battery, so you must make sure that they are at full battery capacity.
A low battery could cause all sorts of problems with the device, including the no sound problem you’re currently having.
In that regard, your next step is to plug the speaker into a charger and let it fill up the power bar.
- Connect your JBL Charge 4 to the adapter and let it acquire power!
The average time your speaker takes to charge from 0 to 100% is said to be somewhere 2 hours, but you could keep it plugged less than that.
Just make sure that the speaker is over 50% charged, which is considered an optimal functioning state for the device.
Note: The JBL Charge 4 will display how much it has charged on the power bar’s dots.
Solution #3 Reconnect the Device From Bluetooth
What you should do now is have the JBL Charge 4 reconnected from your mobile device and then attempt to stream music through the speaker.
In most cases, reconnecting the Bluetooth of the speaker will resolve the problem so it’s a high chance that your troubleshooting ends here.
Here’s how to reconnect the JBL Charge 4 from your phone:
- Unlock your mobile and head to Settings.
- Navigate to the Bluetooth Tab and access it.
- Press the JBL Charge 4’s connection in the Bluetooth menu.
- Hit the “Info” button in order to access the connection settings.
- Press “Disconnect” in the speaker’s menu.
- Press the Back arrow to head back into the Bluetooth Menu.
- Select your speaker’s connection in order to pair it with the device.
- Test…
Once your mobile device has reconnected from the speaker, play music or sound from any audio source and test the device.
Alert: Make sure that your phone’s volume is also turned up while testing the speaker.
Solution #4 Switch Phone’s Audio Source
Chances are that the problem is with your mobile device, rather than with the speaker itself.
What you should do next is play music or audio from a different Audio Source on your mobile device.
The most proven video and audio source throughout the web are YouTube, so we would strongly recommend that you test your speaker’s audio while playing through YouTube.
- Turn on the YouTube app or browser version on your phone and pair the speaker!
Once the speaker is paired and the status of the device has changed to “Connect” in the Bluetooth settings of your phone, turn on music from YouTube.
Double-check the volume of your phone and determine if there is going to be any audio output from the speaker now.
You should also test with famous songs or videos on YouTube, to make sure that their sound quality is interrupted and the audio actually exists.
Note: Play audio from YouTube for at least 10-15 seconds to test your speaker appropriately.
Solution #5 Forget the Speaker’s Connection
If your JBL Charge 4 no sound problem persists, then you should forget and then re-add the JBL speaker to your mobile device.
This will ultimately refresh the connection between your mobile device and speaker, resulting in the removal of connection glitches that have occurred.
Keep in mind that the JBL Charge 4 Speaker’s profile on your mobile device will be permanently erased.
Alert: Any device-specific setting on your phone will be deleted!
Here’s how to forget and then re-add your JBL Charge 4 speaker to your phone:
- On your phone, launch Settings.
- Navigate to the Bluetooth Tab.
- Press JBL Charge 4 and enter the info settings.
- Select “Forget this Device”.
- Wait for the JBL Charge 4’s profile to be deleted from your mobile device.
- Press the Bluetooth Button on the speaker.
- In the “Discoverable Devices” section of your phone select the JBL Charge 4 speaker.
- Wait for the pairing to be completed.
Once you’ve selected the speaker to be re-added to your mobile devices in the discoverable section, the connection will soon be performed.
Alert: Make sure that your speaker is turned on throughout the entire setup process.
Solution #6 Factory Reset the JBL Charge 4 Speaker
If nothing worked so far, then you should perform a Factory Reset on the JBL speaker!
This way, you’ll refresh the software of the speaker back to factory defaults, resulting in a total data wipe.
This is the ultimate solution for your speaker, since it will reinstall all services of the device, including the internal Bluetooth settings that may be causing the fault.
- Press and hold the Volume + and the Play Buttons at the same time to start the reset!
Once the required buttons have been held, your speaker will go into Factory Reset Mode.
As long as the device is turned on and its LEDs are working, this state should be achievable after pressing the Volume + and the Play buttons at the same time.
Note: Avoid interacting with the speaker for the next 3 minutes until it finishes resetting.
