Alexa is not announcing the Ring doorbell due to different factors including network issues, device glitches, outdated firmware and software, and many others.
The solution requires 5 minutes in which we need to inspect all involved possibilities. So, without further delay, let’s start troubleshooting!
Can Alexa Announce Ring Doorbell?
Yes, Alexa will announce when the Ring doorbell detects motion or is pressed.
Here’s how the configuration goes:
- Turn on and connect Ring Doorbell to the WiFi.
- Prepare your phone by downloading the Alexa app.
- Connect the smartphone to the same (Ring) WiFi.
- Star the Alexa app and go to “Skills and Games”.
- Search and enable the “Ring – Always Home” skill.
- Tap on the “Enable to Use” button to start the service.
- Follow the instructions to link your Ring with Alexa.
- Then go to “Announcement Devices” to configure.

How To Fix When Alexa Not Announcing Ring Doorbell?
To fix the ring doorbell issue on your Alexa device, try all the following solutions!
1. Restart Doorbell – Router – Alexa
Restarting all devices involved – Alexa (Echo), your WiFi router, and the Ring Doorbell will be a quick and effective troubleshooting approach.
Perhaps your Alexa is not announcing the Ring doorbell due to a network issue, which is restricting the services neccesary for the notification.
Here is how to restart all devices involved in the setup:
1.1 – Restart The Ring Doorbell:
- Open the Ring App.
- Tap on the Menu button.
- Tap on the Devices.
- Tap on your Ring Device.
- Tap on the Device Health.
- Press Reboot This Device.
- Confirm the selection.
- Wait for a few minutes.
Tip: If your Ring doorbell has batteries, remove them for a while and then put them back!
1.2 – Restart The WiFi Router:
- Unplug the WiFi router from the power outlet.
- Wait for about 3 minutes for a power cycle.
- Plug the WiFi router into the power outlet.
1.3 – Restart Amazon Echo
To restart your Amazon Echo (Alexa speaker), unplug the device from the power outlet and then plug back the adapter into a standalone electrical outlet.
Avoid connecting Alexa to power strips.
2. Disable Do Not Disturb Mode
In case Alexa is not announcing the Ring doorbell on your smartphone, check for the DND mode because maybe it is enabled or you scheduled.
What we know for certain is that when any suppression mode is enabled, Alexa on this device will not announce anything.
Here is how to disable the do not disturb mode on Alexa:
- Start the Alexa app.
- Select the Devices tab.
- Tap on the Echo & Alexa.
- Tap on your Alexa device.
- Press on the Settings gear icon.
- Tap on the Do Not Disturb.
Note: Also check whether there is any option that is suppressing the notification if you’re not receiving announcements from Ring doorbell from Alexa on your phone.
3. Check the Ring announcements!
It’s important to ensure that you correctly configured the announcement settings for the Ring doorbell.
It’s highly likely that there is an issue with the settings configuration and that’s why Alexa is not announcing the Ring doorbell.
Here is how to check the Ring doorbell announcement settings:
- Start the Alexa app on the device.
- Tap on the Devices tab from the bottom.
- Press on the “Cameras” tab option.
- Tap on your Ring doorbell.
- Press on the Gear icon from the right corner.
Important: When there, tap on the toggle button for motion and doorbell press to enable the announcements.
If both announcements are already turned on, turn them off and then back on to see if Alexa announces when the doorbell rings.
4. Inspect the Ring Doorbell Battery
If your Ring doorbell runs on batteries, it’s crucial to check and ensure that they are not running low or near the end because dead batteries often lead to numerous problems.
This aspect mainly impacts the doorbell’s functionality and communication with other devices.
Here is how to check the Ring doorbell battery:
- Open the Ring app on the device.
- Tap on the Menu three lines from the top left edge.
- The next step is to select the Devices option.
- Tap on your Ring Doorbell to select the device.
- Press on the Device Health or the Battery Icon.
- Check the percentage of the doorbell battery.
Info: If the battery level is very low then charge or change the batteries in your Ring doorbell to get back your Alexa and Ring doorbell functioning normally!
5. Check the Network Connection!
Both Alexa and Ring doorbell, require a stable and reliable network connection to function properly.
Check to see if both devices are connected to the same network and run a speed test to see how fast your network is, and whether this is not causing all this fuss…
Check The Network Connection:
For Alexa:
- Start the Alexa app.
- Select three lines from the top.
- Tap on the Settings.
- Enter the Device Settings.
- Tap on your Alexa device.
- Tap on the Network.
- Note which WiFi is used.
For Ring Doorbell:
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap on the three lines.
- Tap on the Devices.
- Tap on your Ring Doorbell.
- Tap on the Device Health.
- Check the name of the network.
Important: Connect both devices to the same WiFi network!!!
One More Thing – Test Network Speed!
- Go to any speed test website.
- Tap on the Go button to begin the test.
- Wait for some time to complete the test.
- Check the speed of your network.
Note: If your network speed is less than 5 Mbps, Alexa might not be able to announce!
6. Check for Firmware Updates!
In case the Ring doorbell not announcing on Alexa device, it’s highly likely that the culprit is related to compatibility issues due to outdated firmware.
Don’t worry at all as you don’t have to do anything tricky, only make sure that both your Alexa and Ring doorbell are up to date!
Reminder: Make sure your both Alexa and Ring doorbell is connected to the internet!
Check Firmware Update For Alexa:
- Start the Alexa app.
- Tap on the Devices.
- Press on the Echo & Alexa.
- Tap on your Alexa device.
- Check for firmware updates.
✅ If there is any Update option available, you need to update the device.
✅ If your device has no Update button, your device is already updated.
Check Firmware Update For Ring Doorbell:
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap on the three lines from the top left.
- Tap on the Devices.
- Tap on the Ring Doorbell.
- Tap on the Device Health.
- Check for Firmware Update.
✅ If there is a firmware build, you have to update
✅ If it says “Up to date”, your device is already updated.
Tip: Enable the “Automatic Updates” on your device to stay up to date!
7. Reset The Alexa – Ring Skill
Sometimes the Alexa Skill in the app settings will also get some glitches that might affect its functionality.
No need to worry though because it is not a big issue at all, all you have to do is to disable the skill and re-enable the skill to reset the features and services.
Here is how to reset the Alexa skill feature:
Step #1 Disable The Ring Skill:
- Start the Alexa app.
- Tap on the Menu.
- Tap on the Skill & Games.
- Select the Skills tab.
- Tap on the Ring skill.
- Then tap on the Disable Skill.
- Tap on the Device.
- Tap the Trash Icon to remove it.
Step #2 Re-Enable The Ring Skill:
- Open the Ring app.
- Tap on the Menu icon.
- Press on Skills & Games.
- Tap on the search icon from the top.
- Search for the Ring skill.
- Tap on Enable To Use.
- Then connect your Amazon & Ring accounts.
- Tap on the Discover Devices.
Info: Once you reset the Ring Skill on your Alexa, then check to see that your Alexa device will announce when the Ring doorbell rings!
8. Reset the Ring Doorbell
When all other methods have failed in your case, the final step is resetting the Ring doorbell.
The process deletes all in-app settings and reverts your Ring doorbell to factory settings, which might sound harsh at first, but it’s one of the most-effective methods to do!
Here is how to reset the ring doorbell:
- Head over to the Ring doorbell in your home.
- Press on the orange Reset button from the back.
- For Ring Doorbell 2 or Pro, use the black button.
- Keep holding the button for at least 15 seconds.
- When the ring light flashes, the reset will begin.
- When the light stops flashing, the reset is over.
