1. Check Your Device Location

Check that your mobile device’s location settings are turned on and that the Alexa app has permission to access your device’s location.

This is important because the Alexa app may be unable to access your location, which is why you are unable to set up on Alexa.

Here is how to check for the device and Alexa app location permission:

For Android Devices:

1. Navigate to your device Settings.
2. Scroll down and tap on the Location.
3. Tap on the toggle to turn it to the ON position.
4. Next, scroll down to find the Amazon Alexa app.
5. Make sure the toggle is set to the ON position.

For iPhone Devices:

1. Navigate to your device Settings.
2. Tap on the Privacy & Security.
3. Tap on the Location Services.
4. Tap on the toggle to the ON position.
5. Next, scroll down to find the Amazon app.
6. Ensure that the toggle is set to ON position.

Tip: In case the changes don't solve the issue instantly, reboot your device!

2. Power Cycle Alexa & Device!

One quick and effective solution is to restart your Alexa device.

Maybe the location access in your mobile device is having issues, or simply the Echo speaker is currently glitched, which is why rebooting both instances is the best next step!

Here is how to restart the Alexa (Echo) device:

1. Turn OFF the location from your mobile.
2. Wait for a second and turn the location back on.
3. Next, locate the Alexa Echo power adapter.
4. Unplug the adapter from the power outlet.
5. Wait for at least 30 seconds.
6. Plug the adapter into the power outlet.
7. Check if Alexa’s device location is working.

3. Re-Setup the Alexa Location!

Step #1 Delete The Location From Alexa:

2. Tap on the Devices tab from the bottom right corner.
3. Tap on the Echo & Alexa from the top.
4. Tap on your Alexa device.
5. Tap on the Device Location.
6. Tap on Edit from the top right corner.
7. Then delete the current address by removing all details.
8. Tap on Save from the top right corner to save the changes.

Step #2 Setup The Location In Alexa:

1. Open the Amazon Alexa app.
2. Tap on the Devices tab from the bottom bar.
3. Tap on the Alexa & Echo device.
4. Tap on the Device location.
5. From the top, type in the search box.
6. Tap on the Advanced Search. 
7. Fill in all fields including street address, apartment, etc.
8. Then tap on Save to confirm the changes.

Tip: If you don't have a value for the apartment/ suite/ unit, add a "n/a" placeholder to save the address!

4. Update the Amazon Alexa App!

The Alexa app regularly gets updates with bug fixes and new features, so make sure you have the most recent version of the Alexa app on your phone.

This will ensure the best possible performance as well as latest updates to maintain the location accessibility for the device. 

Note: Make sure to update the Alexa app to get the most out of your Alexa device!

1. Open the App Store or Play Store on your mobile device.

3. Tap on the app when it appears.

5. Inspect for Address Duplication

6. Wait for the end of the installation.
7. Insert your Amazon account details.
8. Set your current location on the Amazon Alexa app.

Note: Uninstalling the Alexa app from your device permanently erases ALL settings and configuration!

7. Reset your Amazon Echo Device!

Sometimes when nothing else helps, the best way to resolve a location glitch with your Amazon Echo device is by performing a factory restoration.

The factory reset will surely disconnect your Echo from the Amazon Alexa app but will remove all impermanent bugs!

Reminder: Resetting your Echo will also unpair all connected Bluetooth devices!

1. Press and hold the Microphone OFF + Volume down!
2. Keep holding the buttons for about 20 seconds.
3. Wait until the light ring turns off and on again.
4. As Alexa shows the blue light, it is in setup mode.

6. Add your Amazon account details.

8. Set the location for the Echo in the Alexa app.
