Why VTech Baby Monitor Camera Not Connecting?
We can understand how frustrating it is when the baby room’s monitor camera is not connecting, which is a reason to be concerned.
Sometimes the monitor loses its connection with the camera even though they are previously connected.
Hence this can happen due to numerous reasons so let’s begin reviewing them:
- Interference from other Electronics!
- Large Proximity between the units.
- Dead or Low batteries of the devices
- Monitor or Camera Device Glitch
- Outdated Device Firmware Version
- Unstable Network Speed / WiFi
- Incompatibility between the Devices
Now we have a basic idea that what factors are involved, let’s jump into the troubleshooting!
How To Fix When VTech Baby Monitor Not Connecting?
As we have a basic idea of what is preventing the VTech monitor from connecting, we can proceed with the solutions.
Keep in mind that the above methods will only help if followed in order so start from the beginning in order to identify the true case of the issue!
Solution #1 Restart The VTech Devices!
One of the common reasons devices can’t connect is because of bugs and glitches in the operating system.
If the monitor isn’t connecting, the camera or monitor may be having some technical glitches and by performing a restart you will be able to refresh ALL services at once!
Here is how to restart the VTech camera & monitor:
- Turn OFF the camera.
- Take out its batteries.
- Unplug the monitor from the power outlet.
- Wait for 60 seconds!
- Reboot your devices.
When you’re ready, test whether the VTech monitor will now connect and start providing a live view from the baby’s room. In case the issue persists, keep reading the following solution!
Solution #2 Check Devices Batteries
Check the batteries in the camera and monitor after restarting both devices. If the batteries in the device are low or dead, then that’s why the monitor is causing connectivity issues.
We can’t determine whether the batteries are dead, but can see the current battery charge!
Here is how to check the VTech camera and monitor the battery level:
- Navigate to the VTech monitor screen and look for the Battery Icon.
- Then check the Battery Level from there.
- In case the battery is low, plug the device into the power!
- If the battery is not charging, then you’ll need a replacement.
Need A New Battery?
The parent unit is running on a rechargeable battery or when directly plugged into the power.
However, if you’re not connecting your monitor to the power, you’ll need a good replacement battery and we recommend getting the VANBOW VTech Pack to be setup up for the future!
Solution #3 Test The Internet (WiFi) Speed
The VTech camera and baby monitor must have a fast speed and stable network. Said simply, essential communication between devices depends on the internet and its consistency.
One of the most popular methods is to reboot your WiFi router by unplugging it for 2 minutes and then turning it back on.
If you are using a mobile data connection, then turn the connection off and on to refresh the services and then perform a speed test on your network!
Here is how to check the WiFi router network speed:
- Use a computer or mobile connected to the VTech WiFi.
- Navigate to the Speed Test website from the device.
- Click on the GO button and check the speeds.
- Anything under 5Mbps, is not enough for a VTech setup!
Tip: For internet-related blunders, feel free to contact your Internet Service Provider!
Solution #4 Reconnect Baby Monitor To Camera
The next best step is to test whether the VTech monitor will connect to the camera if we attempt to do so in the correct manner.
Even if you just attempted and it didn’t work we strongly suggest following the steps below to be able to exclude this possibility once at all.
Here is how to reconnect the VTech baby monitor with the camera:
- First, be sure that the monitor and camera are turned on.
- Navigate to camera Connection Settings.
- You can do so from the monitor menu via the Menu button.
- Tap on the Add or Pair Camera Option from the menu.
- Next, press a button on the camera to get the Pairing Code.
- Enter the Pairing Code on the VTech monitor.
- As the monitor connects, it’ll start streaming the feed.
If the VTech baby monitor won’t connect after the steps, proceed with the next solution!
Solution #5 Reduce The Distance Proximity!
In case nothing by far managed to help, check the distance between the WiFi router and the distance between the monitor and the camera.
Make sure that the camera and monitor are not placed too far from each other and from the WiFi router as well.
- The distance between the units, shouldn’t be more than 32 feet!
To fix the proximity issue, simply try to place the monitor, camera, and router nearer to each other as much as possible.
Then check if the VTech baby monitor connects. If it does, then the issue is simply the large distance between devices.
Tip: You can also test your setup while the devices are placed next to each other!
Solution #6 Check Frequency Interference
Whenever the VTech baby monitor not connecting to camera, we sometimes can’t see but there is a frequency interference.
If you didn’t know that the VTech monitor operates on a specific frequency channel, and when another device uses the same channel, we see weird behavior.
- The solution is to simply switch to another frequently on your VTech setup!
Here is how to change the VTech camera and monitor frequency channel:
- Turn on the VTech camera and monitor.
- Tap on the monitor Menu button.
- Go to Camera & Monitor Frequency Channel Settings.
- Change the frequency channel on both devices.
- Then check if the monitor connects with the camera.
- If not, try switching the frequency channel a few more times!
Note: Don’t forget to remove any electronic devices near the camera or VTech monitor!
Solution #7 Factory Reset VTech Monitor!
Sometimes basic solutions are not enough and simply can’t solve any underlying issue with the VTech setup.
That’s why the final and ultimate solution is to reset the VTech monitor and try connecting with the camera when the operation is over.
Here is how to reset the VTech monitor in easy steps:
- Find the Reset button from the back of the device.
- It’s located in a little hole on the back panel.
- Press and hold the Reset button for about 10 seconds.
- Then release the button and wait for 60 seconds.
When the VTech monitor is reset, test connecting both units now!
