1. Check if the “C” Wire is Loose

Although your Sensi programmable thermostat does not require a direct connection with the “C” wire, you should check if it is loose or has fallen within the wall.

If you are unsure whether your previous thermostat required a “C” wire, you should check the leads from your circuit breaker.

Here’s how to check if the “C” wire has fallen within the wall:

1. Remove the front faceplate of the Sensi thermostat from the wall.
2. Detach the two backup AAA Alkaline batteries from the Emerson.
3. Wait until the display goes black, and uninstall the mounting plate.
4. Take the “G” wire lead from the wall and look for another red wire.
5. Optional: Grip the lead of your “C” wire and pull it out of the wall.

Sensi’s wire cabling typically consists of 5-colored wires: yellow, red, blue, green, white, and possibly black.

The blue-colored wire is labeled as “C”, however, if you have a 6th extra black wire, you can use it as a common wire and insert it into your “C” labeled thermostat terminal.
