#1: Power Cycle Your Thermostat to Clear Bugs and Glitches
Turning your thermostat off and on helps clear any bugs and glitches affecting its performance.
To do this, follow these steps:
- Turn Off your thermostat by unplugging it or flipping the breaker switch.
- Wait for 30 seconds or until your thermostat has fully powered down.
- Turn the power back on your thermostat by plugging it or flipping the breaker switch.
- Wait for your device to boot up.
Note: If your Ecobee thermostat runs on battery, power cycle it by removing the battery for 30 seconds and putting it back in.
#2: Check Your Connection with the Internet and WiFi Router
Thermostats need a stable and strong WiFi signal to communicate with the Ecobee servers and upload your data to Home IQ.
So, if you have an Ecobee Home IQ data not working problem, check your internet connection.
- Ensure your ISP is not experiencing any problems or service interruptions.
- Ensure your WiFi router is plugged in, turned on, and working properly.
- Ensure your thermostat is within range of your WiFi and not blocked.
- Confirm that your thermostat has a valid IP address on the correct WiFi network.

- Connect your thermostat to the same WiFi network as your other devices.

#3: Fill Up Your Location Data and Property Characteristics Data
Filling up your location and property characteristics data helps Ecobee calculate your energy savings, comfort settings, and weather impact.
To fill up your location data, follow these steps:
- Open the Ecobee app.
- Tap on the Hamburger Menu in the upper left corner.
- Tap on Settings.
- Select Location.
- Type in your new address in the Address field.
- Tap on Save.
Your Ecobee thermostat will use your new address for the most accurate weather forecast and other location-based features.
Note: Your Ecobee thermostat must be connected to the internet to update its location. Additionally, you need to change the location of each home if you have multiple homes in the Ecobee app.
To change your property characteristics data, do these:
- Open the Ecobee app.
- Tap on the Hamburger Menu in the upper left corner.
- Tap on Settings.
- Select Property Characteristics.
- Change the values for the following fields:
- Building Style
- Square Footage
- Number of Floors
- Number of Bedrooms
- Number of Full-time Occupants
- Age of Building
- Tap on Save.
Your Ecobee thermostat will use these property characteristics to calculate the best settings for your home.
Tip: If you are unsure of the values for any of the fields, leave them blank.
#4: Pair Your Ecobee to the App Again
Re-pairing your Ecobee thermostat with the app is crucial as it maintains synchronization and ensures accurate data and reports.
To do this, follow these steps:
- Download and install the Ecobee app on your smartphone.
- Create or log in to your Ecobee account.
- Launch the app and tap the + or Add a Device button.
- Select thermostat as the device to add.
- Enter your thermostat’s registration code.
- Follow the instructions to connect to your WiFi network.
- Wait for the pairing to complete.
- Verify the successful connection in the app.
#5: Verify Your Thermostat’s Run Time
If you have an Ecobee Home IQ reports not working problem, verify your device’s run time.
Your thermostat needs to run for at least 15 minutes per hour for at least three consecutive days to generate data and reports.
To verify your Ecobee thermostat’s run time, follow these steps:
- Open the Ecobee app.
- Tap on the Hamburger Menu in the upper left corner of the screen.
- Tap on Settings.
- Select Thermostats.
- Tap the name of your thermostat.
- Tap on Runtime Report.
The runtime report will show how long your thermostat has run in each mode (heating, cooling, and fan) for the current month.

Note: The runtime report is only available for thermostats connected to the internet for at least five days.
#6: Remove and Set up Your Thermostat to the Ecobee App Again
A more drastic solution to your Home IQ problem is removing and setting up your thermostat to the Ecobee app again.
It involves resetting your device and connecting it to your Ecobee account again, resolving any issues during the initial setup or pairing process.
To remove your Ecobee thermostat from the app, follow these steps:
- Launch the Ecobee app on your tablet or smartphone.
- Tap on the Hamburger Menu in the upper left corner.
- Select Settings.
- Tap Thermostats.
- Tap on the name of the thermostat you want to remove.
- Tap Remove.
- Confirm your decision by tapping Yes.
Once you have removed your thermostat from the app, follow the instructions below to add and set it up again.
Note: You need the registration code for your Ecobee thermostat to set it up with the app.
- Download and install the Ecobee app on your device.
- Open the app and sign up for an account.
- Tap on Add a thermostat on the home screen.
- Select Ecobee from the list of available thermostats.
After successful pairing, proceed with the remaining steps of the setup process.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your thermostat to your WiFi network.
- Customize the thermostat settings and preferences.
- Test the remote control of your thermostat through the Ecobee app.
#7: Clear Temporary Files from the Ecobee App

- Tap on General.

Android
- Go to Settings.
- Tap on Apps.
- Select Ecobee.
- Tap Storage.
- Tap on Clear Cache and confirm you want to clear the cache.
- Tap on Clear Data and confirm you want to clear the data.
Note: Check if your Home IQ works properly by accessing your smart home device's settings or diagnostics menu. Ensure all firmware and software updates are current.
#8: Update Your Thermostat’s Firmware
Outdated firmware sometimes often leads to functionality problems.
You must update your thermostat’s firmware to fix any bugs and glitches and improve performance and compatibility with new features and updates.
To do this, follow these steps:
- Ensure your thermostat is connected to the internet.
- Open the Ecobee app.
- Tap on the Hamburger Menu in the upper left corner.
- Tap on Settings.
- Tap on About.
- If a firmware update is available, it will be listed under Available Updates.
- Tap on Install to start the update.
The update process will take a few minutes. Once done, your thermostat will reboot automatically.
You should only update your Ecobee thermostat’s firmware when prompted by the Ecobee app.
Tip: Do not interrupt the update process. If you do, you will need to start the update all over again.
