What Types of Lock Are Available For Nest Learning
Can you lock the control settings on the Nest thermostat? Since Nest Learning is an enhanced version of the common Nest Thermostat, does it have the same locking functions?
The answer is positive.
You can apply the same locking methods if you’ve had a Nest Thermostat before and just acquired a Nest Learning Thermostat.
Those methods are: adding a PIN from the device itself, adding a PIN via your smartphone, or locking via the Google Home app.
We will cover all of them below.
How To Lock A Nest Thermostat
How to lock the Nest thermostat? There is more than one way to lock your Nest Thermostat.
This section of the article will explain everything you must know.
Method #1: Add A PIN From The Nest Thermostat
To configure a code directly on the Nest Thermostat, press the unit to show up the main menu from the home screen and choose “Settings.”
- Scroll to the right and select “Lock.”
- Select “Lock“
- Enter a four-digit PIN by rolling the wheel and pressing the unit to move to the next digit.
- Enter the PIN again.
Then set the minimum temperature to which you will allow others to change it without entering your PIN.
Furthermore, it will limit the temperature to a certain value. You may either make it into a temperature range or use the same figure for both the low and high temperatures.
Then select “Done.”
As of right now, your Nest thermostat is secure. A little lock symbol will appear in the bottom right corner to further emphasize the fact that this device requires a password to be accessed.
The password must be entered if any other person wants to make a change to the configuration.
Method #2: Add A PIN From Your Smartphone
The second main way to lock your Nest thermostat is by using the Nest app.
- Open the app
- Select your Nest thermostat on the home page.
- Tap the settings gear icon in the top right corner of the screen.
- Select “Block.”
- Enter a four-digit PIN.
- Enter the PIN again.
Adjust the minimum and maximum temperatures using the two knobs with sliders. The app’s minimum temperature range is four degrees.
Therefore, it is impossible to make them the same number and prevent anybody from modifying the temperature as you do on the Nest itself.
After establishing a range, hit “Lock” at the bottom.
Your Nest Thermostat will be locked, and the app’s settings menu will show a blue “Unlock” button.
This option will unlock the Thermostat and disable password security.
Tip: While you'll need to input the passcode to make any changes to the Thermostat, you won't have to do it through the Nest app, which is a pleasant feature.
Method #3: Lock From Google Home App
Prevent unauthorized access to your Nest thermostat with the help of the Google Home app.
You can protect your Nest Thermostat and choose between setting a single temperature and a temperature range if you use the Google Home app to control the Thermostat.
- Open up the Google Home app.
- To adjust the temperature at your home, go to the Thermostat’s settings.
- Put in a password by selecting Lock.
- Then click the “Next” button.
The temperature may then be adjusted as follows:
- Select Set temperature
- Choose the key in the desired setting for the Thermostat
- select Next.
- Simply go to the Thermostat’s settings
- press lock
- confirm your selection to lock the device
