Wondering why Braeburn thermostat cool flashing? Well, this guide covers everything!
When your Braeburn thermostat calls your home HVAC to turn on the cooling system, the cool light will start flashing.
However, sometimes the cool on the thermostat may continue to flash but not turn on the cooling system, which is now an issue that requires your attention.
If your Braeburn thermostat is flashing cool, it means that your home’s HVAC system is not responding to the thermostat.
It happens due to an issue with the HVAC installation, an error in the air conditioning system, or a local problem with the thermostat itself.
So, without further ado, let’s dive in and start troubleshooting!
How To Fix When Cool Flashing On Braeburn Thermostat?
Note: All of the steps below are proven to help when the Braeburn thermostat flashes cool!
1. Reset The Braeburn Thermostat
When the Braeburn thermostat is experiencing issues, it may flash cool due to power surges or system errors and glitches.
However, resetting the thermostat will quickly resolve the issue, in case the problem is minor and related to a local power insufficiency with the device.
Note: You can soft or hard reset your Braeburn thermostat to see which would work!
How to Soft Reset Braeburn Thermostat?
- Turn off the Braeburn thermostat device.
- Locate the thermostat circuit breaker.
- Flip over the room fuse from the breaker.
- Wait for about 30 seconds up to 1 minute.
- Flip down the fuse on the circuit breaker.
- Turn on the thermostat and test the device.
How to Hard-Reset Braeburn Thermostat?
Note: Hard resetting the thermostat will permanently delete the saved configuration!
- Turn off the Braeburn thermostat power.
- Open the thermostat battery compartment.
- Locate the Reset pinhole on the front.
- Hold the Reset button using a toothpick or pin!
- The Braeburn thermostat will shortly reset.
Info: Once you are done with the reset on the thermostat then set up the temperature and mode settings and check whether the cool light still flashes.
2. Replace the Thermostat Batteries
If your Braeburn thermostat has malfunctioned or the batteries are weak then it won’t properly power communicate with the HVAC system.
This will prevent the HVAC from responding to the thermostat, which is the primary reason why the cool is flashing as an indication.
Here is how to replace the Braeburn thermostat:
- Turn off the power to Braeburn thermostat power.
- Grip and hold the thermostat body from the wall.
- Pull the thermostat body to remove it from the base.
- Eject the already installed batteries from the thermostat.
- Install the 2 x AA fresh alkaline batteries in the body.
- Avoid inserting already-used batteries in your thermostat.
As soon as you are done replacing the Braeburn thermostat battery, power on the device and check for a cool flashing on the screen.

3. Inspect the A/C Circuit Breaker!
Another possibility is that your home AC circuit breaker is tripping due to power surges, which is why the HVAC is not responding to your thermostat.
All you have to do is check the AC circuit breaker to determine whether there are any visible faults such as blown fuse or melted wires!
The older type of fuses are easy to recognize since their central part becomes dim or black and indicating that the fuse is blown.
Newer fuses connected to the AC line via wires cannot easily be identified as they simply trip when overcharged and continue to trip frequently when faulty.
Tip: If you’re concerned that a fuse has blown, stop the AC power from the street switchboard and only then disconnect the fuse from the circuit breaker!
4. Check the Thermostat’s Wiring!
If there is a wiring issue with your Braeburn thermostat base or the HVAC control board, the power supply to the thermostat will be limited.
This way, your thermostat will continue to wait for the HVAC to respond (indefinitely) and the cooling light will remain in the flashing state.
How to Check Braeburn Thermostat Wiring?
- Stop the power to your Braeburn thermostat.
- Disconnect the thermostat body from its base.
- Note down the thermostat wire’s orientation.
- Unplug the thermostat wires from their connectors.
- Closely inspect the wire connectors and terminals.
If you notice any defects in the thermostat wiring, replace them with professional help!
How to Check the HVAC Breakers Wiring?
- Head over to the home HVAC system control panel.
- Locate the circuit breaker for the thermostat and AC.
- Turn both circuit breakers to the OFF position.
- Remove the faceplate of the circuit breakers for access.
- Inspect the wires for damage, breakage, and wear.
- If possible, then disconnect the wires from the connectors.
- Reconnect the wires securely back with the circuit breaker.
- Turn on and test whether the cool light is still flashing!
Note: More about Braeburn wires you can find in the product’s user manual.
5. Check the Air Conditioning System
Another thing to do is to inspect the air conditioning system because it is possible that the air filters in your AC are completely clogged.
It’s also likely that the condensation coils are dirty and restricting the airflow, which makes the Braeburn thermostat cool flashing.
How to Check the AC Air Filters?
- Power off the power to the air conditioning system.
- Locate the air filters from the front panel of the AC.
- Firmly hold the AC air filters and gently take them out.
- Set up a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment.
- Clear away all the dust and debris from the filters.
- Next, prepare a mix of warm water and detergent.
- Dip the filters in the water and leave them for 20 minutes.
- Wash the air filters under clean water to clear away debris.
- Leave the air filters in a room to air dry completely.
How to Clean the AC Condensation Coils?
- Ensure to turn off the power to your main AC unit.
- Locate and get access to the condensation coils.
- Inspect the coils for any visible debris, or dirt buildup.
- If there is dirt buildup on AC coils, give a good clean.
- Remove the dirt or debris from the coils using a soft brush.
- Then spray the coil cleaning solution to remove everything.
- Leave the solution on the coils for a couple of minutes.
Once you are done with cleaning the AC air filters and the condensation coils, then reassemble the access panel back on the unit.
Only then turn on the power to check the cool light flashing!
6. Test the AC Capacitor for Voltage!
If your Braeburn thermostat continues to flash cool, it is possible that a capacitor in your AC is defective and is not powering or starting the compressor.
This ultimately causes the HVAC to be unable to start the cooling system, hence the capacitor needs to be tested for voltage!
Here is how to test the AC capacitor for voltage:
- Turn off the AC from the main circuit breaker.
- Locate and head over to the AC compressor.
- Locate the capacitor from the compressor.
- Tip: It’s in a cylindrical shape.
- Short out the terminals using an insulated screwdriver.
- Set up the Multimeter to test the capacitor voltage.
- Touch the capacitor probes to the multimeter terminals.
- Check for the results:
✅ If the multimeter reading is within 10% of the rated capacitance, the capacitor is fine.
✅ If the multimeter reading is different, then replace the old capacitor with a new one.
When you are done and are sure that everything is working fine, then turn on the power to the HVAC, thermostat, and AC to continue using the cooling system.
In case the cool light is still there and flashing indefinitely, then you would need some professional help.

You can also contact Braeburn Support to report the issue that you are facing and hopefully, they will come up with even more solutions. Good luck!
Reminder: Don’t forget to share what you’ve already attempted in this guide and check whether the product’s warranty is still intact to be claimed.
Quick Recap:
If your Braeburn thermostat cool flashing, reset the thermostat and replace the batteries as early in the troubleshooting as possible.
If the issue persists, then check the main AC circuit breaker, thermostat, and HVAC breaker wiring for any faults to identify the culprit.
