How to Fix When Asko Dishwasher Start Button Not Working?

Before we proceed, make sure that the Dishwasher’s LED lights are active, meaning that the power income hasn’t been disrupted.

Solution #1 Close the Door Properly!

In order for your Asko Dishwasher to start the washing cycle, the door must be closed.

Meaning, if the door hasn’t triggered the door switch (on the top panel of your dishwasher), you’ll be unable to start the device’s cycle.

For this solution, you must make sure that the door of your Asko Dishwasher is closed all the way.

To do this, open the door all the way from its current position and then give it a good push until it clicks.

The clicking sound of the door switch will indicate that the door is closed.

Set up an Asko Dishwasher Timer!

The Asko Dishwasher timer cog could either be digital or physical.

✅ With Older Asko Dishwasher Models

The timer is a physical button that you could rotate. Respectively, you could choose how prolonged the cleaning cycle should be.

✅ With Newer Models of Asko Dishwashers

For new models, all you have to do is press the digital button to choose the length of the cycle.

Note: Once you’ve closed the door and chosen a cleaning cycle timer, press the Start button!

Solution #2 Power Cycle the Dishwasher

Perhaps, there’s a temporary power fault with your Asko Dishwasher.

To get this problem resolved quickly and efficiently, we strongly recommended power cycling the Asko device!

• The power cycle simply discharges the device and doesn’t reset anything!

Follow these instructions to power cycle your Asko Dishwasher in easy steps:

1. Unplug the Power Cable of the Asko Dishwasher.
2. Press and hold the Start/Stop for 10 – 15 seconds.
3. After that, give the Start/Stop button 10 – 15 presses.
4. Wait for 3 – 5 minutes, while the Asko Dishwasher is unplugged.
5. Reconnect the power cable of the dishwasher back into the outlet.
6. Turn on the device and test.

While you’re at it, connect the dishwasher to an alternative power source to test the power outlet of the Asko device.

If the dishwasher Start/Stop button seems to be working perfectly fine with the new electrical outlet, consider inspecting the power outlet.

Solution #3 Clean the Dishwasher’s Drain Pump!

When your Asko Dishwasher detects that there is a blockage in the drain pump, it’ll not start up until you unclog what’s inside.

All dishwashers must be placed in a cabinet, with an opening for the drain pipe, so the device can dispose of the dirty water.

Your dishwasher has the ability to detect whether the garbage/drain pipe is filled or not.

The pump assists in removing water from the tank at various times during operations.

Here’s how to inspect/clean the dishwasher’s drain pump:

1. Disconnect the Asko Dishwasher from the Power Outlet.
2. Get a long object that’ll help you unclog the Drain Pipe.
3. Pour in a solution of Baking Soda and Vinegar.
4. Wait for 15 minutes and run warm water through the pipe.
5. Reconnect the drain pipe to the dishwasher.
6. Re-install your dishwasher into the Electrical Outlet.
7. Turn on the device and test.

While waiting for the vinegar and baking soda solution to take effect, make sure that the dishwasher’s connection with the sewer is correct.

Inspect the sewer side of the trap and verify that all connections are secured.

Note: If you have a hard time finding the drain pump, it’s usually in a cabinet under the sink.

Solution #4 Replace Blown Thermal Fuse

If the Thermal Fuse of your Asko Dishwasher burns out or fails to work, it’ll prevent the device from starting up.

If that’s the case, you should take the thermal fuse of your dishwasher, inspect it for Continuity and replace the unit if the device is failing to work.

• To test a Thermal Fuse for continuity, you’ll need a multimeter!

Here’s how to test/replace a thermal fuse in your Asko Dishwasher:

1. Disconnect the Power Cable of the Asko Dishwasher.
2. Undo the bolts at the device’s Control Panel.
3. Take out the panel and export the buttons to the motherboard.
4. Disconnect the Thermal Fuse from the motherboard.
5. Get a multimeter device and put it at X10.
6. Touch the two ends of the multimeter with the metal plates of the fuse.
7. If the thermal fuse says (0.00), it means that the thermal fuse is blown.
8. Take the blown thermal fuse to a technician’ shop and purchase a replacement.
9. Install the new thermal fuse, in the same place where the old one was.

Though it may sound like a lot, replacing the thermal fuse of your dishwasher is not such a philosophy. However, for inexperienced users, it’s best to contact a technician.

Alert: While taking out the thermal fuse, the dishwasher must be unplugged from power!

Solution #5 Clean the Touchpad’s Ribbon Connector

If some of the touchpad buttons work, but others do not, such as the Start/Stop button, there could be a fault with the Ribbon Connector of the touchpad.

Chances are that a particular fault with the touchpad is preventing the dishwasher from starting and impacting its functionality.

• If there’s a technical fault with the touchpad, none of the buttons will work!

The Ribbon Connector of the touchpad, allows for connecting the external buttons, to the internet functionality switches inside of the dishwasher.

Let’s make sure the part is clean:

1. Undo the screws holding the touchpad intact.
2. Take out the touchpad’s panel.
3. Underneath the button set, locate the Ribbon Connector.
4. Use a toothbrush (or the brush of a pencil), to clean the ribbon.
5. Place the Ribbon Connector back in its respective slot.
6. Re-install the panel of the touchpad onto the dishwasher.
7. Tighten the screws.
8. Test…

If there’s visible damage on the ribbon connector, as a result of a serious fault with the touchpad, it’s best to get the entire touchpad replaced.

You can find replacements online and their price is not something to be surprised about. 

Alert: Do not rub the ribbon too hard or you may damage it even more!

Solution #6 Inspect & Replace the Control Board

The Control Board of your Dishwasher is what gets the whole device going.

If something has burned out on the control board, your dishwasher may either refuse to start up, or the entire power supply to the device will be cut.

• The Control Board is located on the bottom of your Asko Dishwasher!

Here’s how to inspect and replace the Control Board if it’s faulty:

1. Hold tight to the panel at the bottom of the dishwasher.
2. Using slight force, pull the panel downwards until it clicks.
3. Place the panel at the bottom of the floor and expose the control board.
4. Disconnect the board from the adapters plugged in.
5. Take out the board from underneath your dishwasher.
6. Give the control board a close inspection and try to spot burned areas.
7. In case you see a burned capacitor or a blown fuse, order a new motherboard.

Although it may be difficult to spot faults with the control board for untrained eyes, look for the head areas of all components.

For instance, you’ll know a capacitor has burned out if its head is split open and there are burned areas in its surroundings. 

Tip: While taking off the control board, be gentle to avoid damaging the A/C connectors!
