Let’s dig deeper!
Why is my SimpliSafe Wireless Siren Not Working?

The SimpliSafe security system uses cellular communication to connect with the other devices in the system.
The SimpliSafe base station distributes the cellular signal and provides the user with interface access so you can adjust or re-program the connected extra sensors.
The SimpliSafe siren operates only when connected to the base station, which also applies to all other “extra” sensors added to your security system.
The siren is also a SimpliSafe extra sensor that could primarily stop working due to issues with the power, programming, or Wi-Fi.
Here’s an organized list containing all causes for the siren’s malfunction:
Let’s learn how to fix the issue in minutes!
SimpliSafe Siren Not Working – Easy Fix Guide
1. Power Cycle the SimpliSafe Siren

All extra sensors that can be associated with your SimpliSafe 24/7 system are typically wireless and operate on non-rechargeable batteries, including the siren.
You can address any issues with the SimpliSafe siren by discharging the unit, which is a harmless yet practical approach.
Follow these instructions to perform a power cycle on the SimpliSafe alarm:
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the siren.
- Unscrew all bolts and open the compartment on the siren.
- After that, remove all batteries from the SimpliSafe siren.
- Wait for a few seconds and place re-insert it oppositely.
- Detach the battery again and re-plug it back the right way.
- Press the “Test” button on the top panel of the siren unit.
- Wait for the SimpliSafe siren to connect to the base station.
After power cycling the siren, you can check the unit’s connection status with the base station through the “SimpliSafe” mobile app under the “Devices” section.
The label next to the siren’s given name should display “Connected” if the unit is paired with the base station successfully.
Note: The siren should automatically connect to the base station and the system!
2. Inspect the Window/Door Sensor

If connected properly, the SimpliSafe siren is designed to go off only whenever one of your window or door sensors breaks contact while the system is armed.
If you’re testing the siren but the sensor no longer functions properly, you won’t be able to tell if the siren is defective.
So, check the mounting bracket of the door sensor and whether it establishes proper contact with the detector on the door frame.
Remove dust accumulation and debris that could break the contact, arm your system, and test the SimpliSafe siren via multiple sensors.
Note: The siren can be set to go off via multiple sensors!
3. Exit the SimpliSafe “Test” Mode

“Test mode” is a system state that periodically checks the connection between devices assigned in your SimpliSafe security system.
If you haven’t exited the mode and your siren is still under the “Test” regime, it will not produce sound whenever one of your sensors goes off.
Follow these instructions to exit your SimpliSafe system from “Test” mode:
- Press the “Menu” button on the SimpliSafe keypad.
- Then, enter the PIN password to access the keypad.
- Next, press and hold the “Home” button on the keypad.
- Finally, arm the system and test the siren’s functionality.
Note: Hold the “Home” button until “Test mode” appears on the screen!
4. Hard Reset the SimpliSafe Station

The SimpliSafe base station uses a specific BS power cord to supply the electrical requirements of the device.
Hence, performing a total power circulation on your base station will discharge the device’s hardware components and restore the connection with all the other system units.
Here’s how to perform a power circulation on the SimpliSafe base station:
- Locate the BS cord on the back panel of the device.
- After that, unplug the power cable from your station.
- Plug back the power cord into the SimpliSafe station.
- Wait for all the other devices in the system to connect.
Reminder: Check the connection status of all other devices through the SimpliSafe app!
5. Replace the Batteries on the Siren

If the SimpliSafe siren still experiences the same issue, a battery replacement might be required to restore the device’s functionality.
The siren’s AA Alkaline batteries usually last up to 6 months, so let’s review how to take them out and replace them with new ones.
Here’s how to replace the batteries on the SimpliSafe siren:
- Remove the SimpliSafe siren from the mounting bracket.
- Unscrew all bolts and remove the battery compartment.
- Remove all four batteries and correctly place the new ones.
- Re-insert the compartment in the device and re-attach it.
- Wait until the siren pairs with the base station automatically.
Reminder: Have you verified that the batteries are correctly inserted?
6. Connect Your Security System to Wi-Fi

Connecting your system to Wi-Fi is mandatory for enabling all features of your extra sensors and communication technologies of the base station.
If your base station is offline, all of your extra sensors, including the siren, will lose coverage and cannot communicate accurately.
You can connect your system with the SimpliSafe keypad or the SimpliSafe app!
How to Connect System to Wi-Fi Via the Keypad?
- Enter the PIN password on the keypad to access it.
- Navigate to “Menu” > “System Settings” > “Wi-Fi.”
- Locate your Wi-Fi network and select it from the list.
- Then, enter your Network password and connect.
How to Connect System to Wi-Fi Via the Mobile App?
- First, access the “SimpliSafe” app on a mobile unit.
- Choose the “My System” menu from the bottom bar.
- After that, select the “Base Station Settings” option.
- Advance to “Wi-Fi Network” and tap on your Wi-Fi.
- Finally, enter your password and press “Connect.”
The SimpliSafe base station will keep attempting to reconnect with the remembered Wi-Fi network constantly while plugged in.
If the unit keeps failing, it is recommended to inspect your network equipment and power cycle the network router/modem to address coverage issues.
Note: Your system will be offline if the base station is not connected to Wi-Fi.
7. Remove Obstacles Near the Equipment

As established, the base station and all extra sensors in your SimpliSafe security system communicate via a cellular signal that can be easily congested.
Other nearby devices that work on the same wavelength could conflict with the siren’s signal.
The following devices can congest the cellular of your SimpliSafe siren:
- Wi-Fi routers, Bluetooth devices.
- Metallic devices and microwaves.
- RF transmitters or baby phones.
Verify that none of the devices listed above are within a 15-foot radius of the base station or the indoor/outdoor SimpliSafe alarm.
The congested siren signal could cause the Wi-Fi connection between the siren and the base station to drop and cause the system to go offline.
Note: Frequent congestion of the siren’s signal could cause it to produce false signals!
8. Factory Reset the SimpliSafe Siren

Restoring the SimpliSafe siren to factory defaults is an excellent solution for underlying issues with communication, coverage, or auxiliary options.
You can either use the programming button to restore the siren or activate the factory reset through the SimpliSafe mobile app.
