1. Arm & Disarm the SimpliSafe System
Arming and disarming your SimpliSafe system through both the keypad and the mobile app is the most effective method to uncover whether it’s the sensor’s fault.
If your phone or keypad is failing to detect the sensor, setting off all devices and then arming your system will fix the issue.
How to Arm SimpliSafe Via the Keypad?
- Unlock the SimpliSafe keypad using your master code.
- Check if the system is “Away,” “Armed,” or “Disarmed.”
- Press on the “Arm” button to lock in all of your sensors.
How to Arm SimpliSafe Via the Mobile App?
- Launch the SimpliSafe mobile application on your device.
- Navigate to the homepage of the SimpliSafe application.
- Next, press the “Arm” button to lock all of your devices.
While the system is to “Armed” or “Away,” all extra sensors will be working to protect the home and notify you of any events.
If you have an installed motion detector sensor, you can view its current live view through the SimpliSafe application on your Android or iOS mobile smartphone.
2. Take the Sensor’s Battery In & Out

So, each extra sensor from your SimpliSafe security system uses an identical battery unit to supply the signal transmitter and the hardware of the sensor effectively.
Here’s how to remove and reinsert the entry sensor’s battery unit:
- Uninstall the entry sensor from the wall of your door frame.
- Press down on the release tabs on the device’s rear panel.
- Take off the compartment cover and eject the battery unit.
- Next, wait for 60 seconds while the battery is uninstalled.
- Reinsert the CR-2032 Lithium 3V battery back into the bed.
In case the sensor is still not detected as “Online” by your system, the battery is most likely failing, so you must insert a new CR-2032 battery into your sensor’s compartment.

4. Hard Reset the SimpliSafe Base Station

The reset will circulate the station’s HW, clear the device’s cache, and resolve temporary issues.
Here’s how to perform a hard reset on the SimpliSafe base station:
- Unplug the power cord of the base station from the power.
- Disconnect the other end of the cable from the station port.
- Wait for 60 seconds while the base station is discharging.
- Reconnect the unit’s power cable to your electrical outlet.
- Wait until the base station powers on and check the sensor.
While the base station is unplugged, all devices within your closed SimpliSafe security system will temporarily lose connection and show as “Offline” within the SimpliSafe app.
Do not attempt to manage any of the devices while the base station is offline, as the changes will not be saved.

5. Re-Connect the Base Station to Wi-Fi
One of the reasons why the entry sensor offline SimpliSafe is because the base station has lost connection with your local network device.
The station must remain connected to the network at all times to properly distribute the network coverage and show all of your sensors in the app.
Here’s how to connect the SimpliSafe base station to the Wi-Fi in easy steps:
- Press the “Menu” button on the SimpliSafe keypad.
- Next, enter the master PIN to unlock the keypad.
- Select “Settings” and navigate to the “Wi-Fi” pane.
- Wait until all your available networks are shown.
- Select the network and input the SSID password.
- Press on the “Connect” button to undergo a WPS.
The SimpliSafe base station uses only 2.4GHz to connect, so if your network does not appear at first, verify that the station is as close to the router or gateway as possible.
Once your hostname appears, press it once and enter the password to reconnect the base station with your network.
Alert: Placing the base station too far away from the router will congest the Wi-Fi connection!
6. Unmount & Restore the Keypad
If you’re arming and disarming your SimpliSafe system through the keypad, the entry sensor’s fault can be caused by a keypad malfunction.
The next step is to unmount the keypad and restore the unit to factory defaults before attempting to arm the system and all sensors again.
Here’s how to unmount and restore the SimpliSafe keypad in easy steps:
- Unmount the keypad by sliding it upwards from the bracket.
- Remove the batteries from the back compartment of the unit.
- Wait for 5 minutes while the keypad’s voltage is discharged.
- Reinsert the batteries and mount the keypad back into place.
In case the keypad does not detect your presses or doesn’t respond properly, chances are that the batteries are starting to wear out.
If that’s the case, insert proper replacement batteries in your keypad and verify that the compartment is closed securely, and the battery is pushed in.
7. Erase the Base Station’s Settings
In case the SimpliSafe sensor offline, you should restore the settings of the SimpliSafe base station to factory defaults.
The reset will erase all configurations applied to the base station’s system and address issues with the communication or the distribution of the cellular signal.
Here’s how to perform a factory reset on the SimpliSafe base station efficiently:
- Disconnect the power cord from the back of the base station.
- Lift the base station and locate the battery cover on the bottom.
- Pop-open the compartment using a Philips-headed screwdriver.
- Remove the base station’s battery and wait for 10–15 seconds.
- Reinsert the battery unit back into the station’s compartment.
- Put the battery compartment cover back on and plug the station.
Once the factory reset is complete, re-add the base station within the SimpliSafe mobile app, and all sensors should activate automatically.
Once the setup is complete, arm your system, check the status of your entry sensor, and determine if it now says “Online.”
Note: If the sensor is online, it will sound an alarm if the door or window is opened.
