Sometimes this happens: the Levoit air purifier won’t turn on. Levoit air purifiers are popular because they are compact, cheap, and easy to use.
But they are also somewhat fragile electrically, which can cause them not to turn on after a power surge, etc.
If a Levoit air purifier refuses to turn on, you need to replace its power cord, motor, or fuse or stop using a power extensor. Next, check the sleep mode or too much dirt on the internal filter (so you must clean or replace it).
Levoit Air Purifier Won’t Turn On – Find 8 Solutions!
Solution #1: Check The Outlet And Cord
Is your Levoit Air Purifier not turning on? The first thing you should check is the outlet you are using.
When examining it, it is essential to know whether the electrical installation has enough power for the air purifier.
Do the following:
- Unplug your air purifier.
- Find another device with the same power rating as your Levoit.
- Plug it into the outlet.
- Check if it works.
Suppose that the other device has worked just fine. In that case, the issue might lie in the power cord.
Test The Power Cord
You will need a multimeter to test the power cord and determine its condition.
- Touch the multimeter’s probes to the cord’s end.
- Set to continuity.
- If no continuity shows up, the cord is defective.
How To Replace?
If your warranty is still active, you need to contact Levoit.
If the warranty is over, you can do the following:
- Buy a power cord with the correct power specifications as your device.
- Disassemble the air purifier very carefully (don’t lose any screws or components!).
- Detach the old power cord and discard it.
- Install the new power cord.
- Reassemble the air purifier.
Note: If you live in an area where power surges are common, that might be why your device’s power cord has failed.
Thus, you will need equipment to help preserve your device’s condition through power oscillations.
Solution #2: Clean The Filter
If your air purifier’s power is fine, the next component you must look at is the internal filter. As you might know, the filter requires cleaning once in a while.
However, it should also be replaced every six months. That’s because some dirt and smells won’t go away.
First, let’s clean the filter:
- Remove the filter from inside the air purifier.
- Use a vacuum cleaner.
- Gently remove the debris and dirt with the vacuum cleaner.
- If more dirt is still trapped, grab a dry cloth.
- Rub the dry cloth very gently.
When cleaning the filter, you should never use water. That’s because water will damage the filter’s material and will force you to replace it right away.
Once you have cleaned the filter, see how it looks. If its appearance is good, reattach it and try to turn the air purifier.
Solution #3: Change The Filter And Clean The Device
Perhaps you have cleaned the filter and it still looks dirty. Or you haven’t even tried because its condition is awful.
In that case, you will need to replace the filter and perform a full clean on your air purifier.
That should help it get back to its feet. Let’s begin:
- Unplug your air purifier.
- Detach the filter cover.
- Take the filter from inside.
- Grab a vacuum cleaner to remove dirt from inside the purifier.
- Install the replacement filter.
Reset The Filter Replacement Indicator
Your Levoit Air Purifier has a filter indicator that tells you when it needs to be replaced.
However, the device itself doesn’t recognize when you have already changed the filter.
Thus, you must do this:
- Locate the filter indicator button.
- Press it for three to five seconds.
- The red light on the indicator should turn off.
Prevent Further Issues
There are some measures you need to take into account when you have an air purifier.
They will help make your air purifier last long:
- Clean the filter weekly.
- Allow enough airflow around your air purifier, not putting it too close to the furniture.
- Check the air purifier’s temperature. If you notice it is too hot, that might be a sign the electric circuit is not working well.
Solution #4: Deactivate The Sleep Mode
Sometimes, it looks like the Levoit Air Purifier can’t turn on. However, it is already turned on and in sleep mode.
Thus, you need to deactivate its sleep mode to manage other settings.
- Check that the air purifier is plugged into power.
- Tap any button on its panel/display.
- Tap the fan speed button to exit the sleep mode.
Solution #5: Verify The Power Rating
Perhaps you are not using the Levoit air purifier connected directly to a wall outlet.
Rather, you might be using a power extensor. The issue with some of these accessories is that they might not transmit the exact energy that comes from the outlet.
That is especially true if you are using many devices on the power extensor.
- Find your Levoit’s user guide or package and check the voltage/wattage required.
- If possible, check the power rating for your power extensor.
- If there is disparity and the extensor delivers less than needed, you need to stop using it for the Air Purifier.
Solution #6: Check The Back Cover
Another reason that makes your Levoit air purifier not turn on when it should is the back cover not being properly installed.
There could also be some damage to it due to bad preservation.
- Unplug the air purifier.
- Open the air purifier.
- Check the back cover.
- Clean it if necessary.
- Fix it in place, ensuring it doesn’t fall out.
After that, plug the air purifier back into power and see if it turns on.
Solution #7: Replace The Fuse
If your area has plenty of power surges, it can blow the air purifier’s fuse instead of damaging the power cord.
Moreover, the fuse could also be blown due to abuse of the device’s capabilities. Fortunately, the fuse is replaceable.
So let’s do the following:
- Unplug the air purifier.
- Open/disassemble it.
- Locate the fuse.
- Check its conditions: does it look damaged, burned, or dirty?
- Detach it from the air purifier if you answer “yes” to any of the above questions.
Test The Fuse
The multimeter will prove to be a good friend again (if you have already checked the power cord, that is).
- Touch the multimeter’s probes to the fuse’s wires.
- Set to continuity.
- Check the results.
A blown fuse will not show any continuity. In that case, you must replace the fuse.
How To Replace?
Before discarding the blown fuse, you need to use it as a reference to buy a new one.
Once you have the new component, install it and test your air purifier.
Solution #8: Test The Motor And Fan
Another component that might fail on the Levoit Air Purifier is the motor. It is the main part responsible for the device’s entire functioning.
Usually, a failed motor will not run, but it might also cause the device not to turn on. If you want to find out the motor’s condition, do the following:
- Unplug the air purifier.
- Open/disassemble it.
- Locate the motor.
- Clean around it if necessary.
- Lubricate it.
- Reassemble the device and attempt to turn it on.
Before reassembling, checking the fan attached to the motor is important. Perhaps the fan hub is broken, or there are some loose screws. Tighten the screws!
Inspect Further
One sign that the motor needs to be replaced is in case the motor shaft can’t stick.
When that happens:
- Disassemble the motor from the device.
- Check for damage.
- See if there is debris inside the air purifier.
- Clean any debris left by the damaged motor.
If the motor looks damaged and too old to be repaired, you must buy an exact replacement and install it.
Quick Recap
If your Levoit air purifier won’t turn on, you can right away assume that an electrical component is not working as intended.
Other times, though, you should try to remember when was the last time you cleaned the device.
Once you learn how to care for your device properly, it should last a long time!
