What to do when Kindle and Audible are not syncing? There are many ways to fix it!
Kindle and Audible are both Amazon products; thus, you can listen to a book and keep reading from when you stopped it.
However, syncing issues can happen whenever some settings are misplaced.
To sync Kindle and Audible, first, ensure Whispersync is on. If issues persist, update books, clear cache, check the Audible app, and look for Kindle updates.
Kindle and Audible are made to sync, so let’s learn how to use it!
Kindle And Audible Not Syncing – Learn 8 Solutions!
Solution #1: Manage The Whispersync
Are your Audible and Kindle not syncing? Then, you should start from the basics and check whether you have activated the device synchronization correctly.
That feature, also known as Whispersync, allows you to coordinate readings across digital books on Kindle and Audible audiobooks.
- Go to the Amazon site.
- Locate “Manage Your Content and Devices.”
- Go to the “Preferences” tab.
- Choose “Device Synchronization (Whispersync Settings).”
- Toggle the feature on.
The steps above will ensure that your books will be synced across all browsers, apps, or devices you use to read Kindle content.
If You Have A Kindle
If you do have a Kindle device, you can also check the sync settings on it:
- Swipe down on the home screen.
- Open the “Quick Actions.”
- Choose “Sync.”
Solution #2: Sync Audible Manually (iOS and Android)
Perhaps you have already activated the Whispersync settings, but that hasn’t made any difference.
In such a situation, the correct procedure is to manage some settings on the Audible app and ensure that syncing will happen.
The following steps are valid both for iOS and Android:
- Ensure your device is connected to the internet.
- Open the Audible app.
- Go to “Profile.”
- Click on the Gear icon (upper right corner).
- Tap on “Player.”
- Scroll down.
- Locate “Sync Device Position.”
- Toggle it on.
After that, check if the content syncs neatly.
Solution #3: Update The Kindle Book Manually
One reason your book on Kindle and Audible are no longer synced or can’t sync at all is that your book has suffered some changes.
Publishers and independent authors can change the book to correct typos or improve it in some other aspect. Thus, you will need to update the book you have been reading.
It is easy to do it manually:
- Go to the Amazon site.
- Locate “Your Content and Devices” page.
- Locate the “Your Content” tab.
- Select “Books.”
- Locate the book you are having trouble with.
- Click the three-dotted icon under “Actions.”
- Select “Update this title.”
The update should not take long because digital books are very lightweight.
Sync On Kindle
Is the Kindle book and Audible not syncing yet? That’s because the update automatically happens on your account but not on all devices.
After doing the process described above you will need to do the following:
- Open the Kindle app or device.
- Go to the menu button.
- Tap on Sync.
Solution #4: Set Kindle Book For Automatic Update
Don’t you want to update books automatically when syncing features stop working? That is very understandable.
In that case, you can simply set everything to update automatically whenever a new version is uploaded to the Kindle store.
Here are the steps you must take:
- Go to the Amazon site.
- Locate “Your Content and Devices” page.
- Click on “Preferences.”
- Locate “Automatic Book Update.”
- Toggle it to “on.”
Sync To Kindle
Again, the setting has only been saved to your account so far.
Applying it on your Kindle app or device requires the following:
- Open the Kindle app or device.
- Go to the menu button.
- Tap on Sync.
Solution #5: Clear The Audible/Kindle App Cache
Yet a different reason behind the lack of syncing between Kindle and Audible could be the cache data for one or both apps.
The cache data saves much info that should make your reading/listening experience smoother and smarter.
However, an overloaded or corrupted cache will prevent new data from updated versions from being read correctly.
- Open your Android phone’s settings.
- Locate the “Applications” tab.
- Click on the Audible/Kindle app.
- Tap on its “Storage.”
- Click on “Clear Cache.”
After that, you should restart the app you have just cleared the cache for.
Then go to the settings we’ve already discussed in some solutions. If they have been reset, set them again properly. If they are still saved, check how the service behaves from now on.
Tip: You might want to clear the old cache, especially after downloading a new book version.
That way, your app will eliminate files concerning the old version, making it easier to sync with the new version.
Solution #6: Clear The Browser Cache (For Kindle Cloud Reader)
Perhaps you don’t have the Kindle app on your phone, and you also don’t have a Kindle reader.
Rather, you use the Kindle Cloud Reader, which can also sync to the Audible app.
But when it doesn’t sync, you could assume there is an issue with the browser used for Cloud Reader.
A quick way of fixing that is to clear the cache.
Clear The Chrome Cache
Here is how you can clear the Chrome cache to restore Kindle’s functionality:
- Open the Chrome browser.
- Click on “More” (at the top right).
- Locate “More tools.”
- Select “Clear browsing data.”
- Choose if you want to clear data for all time or a specific time range.
- Select the boxes for “Cookies and other site data” and “Cached images and files.”
- Click on “Clear Data.”
Clear The Firefox Cache
Firefox users must clear the cache by doing the following:
- Open the Mozilla Firefox.
- Click on the three-stripe icon.
- Choose “Preferences.”
- Locate “Privacy and Security.”
- Go to “Cookies and Site Data.”
- Choose “Clear Data.”
- Select only “Cached Web Data.”
- Click on “Clear.”
Clear The Opera Cache
Clearing the cache on the Opera browser is very straightforward:
- Open the Opera browser.
- Press “Ctrl” and “H.”
- Locate and click on “Clear browsing data.”
- Select what you wish to delete and for what time range.
- Select “Clear data.”
We recommend you select only the cache and for all time.
Clear The Safari Cache
Safari users can also clear the cache very swiftly:
- Open the Safari browser;
- Click on “Safari” in the top-left corner;
- Select “Preferences”;
- Go to “Advanced settings”;
- Select “Show Develop menu in menu bar” (down below);
- Navigate to the Develop menu;
- Select “Empty caches.”
Solution #7: Restart The Session
A further reason that your content is not synced across devices and/or services is that the session data has not been updated.
A small glitch happens when you are already logged in to a device, and the device fails to retrieve data for your account on a certain app.
Fixing it is very simple:
- Locate your Profile on Kindle Cloud Reader or the Audible app.
- Click on the settings or account settings.
- Locate “Log out“/” Sign out.”
- Sign out of the app and close it.
- Go to Solution#5/#6 in this guide to clear the cache.
- Open the app again.
- Log in to it.
Restarting the session and clearing the cache is the perfect combo to allow the Amazon account changes you have set to take effect on your Audible and Kindle apps.
Solution #8: Update The Kindle Device
One final reason the Kindle falls out of sync with your Audible app is that the Kindle device is outdated.
Devices nowadays update automatically most of the time, but that can fail.
If you suspect your Kindle has failed to update, you must perform the following steps:
- Swipe down from the top of the screen.
- Tap on “Settings.”
- Scroll down.
- Select “Device Options” or “Device” (depending on your Kindle model).
- Choose “System Updates.”
- Tap on “Check Now” or “Check for System Updates“
You will be prompted whenever an update is available, and you can choose to install it.
Note: Is your Kindle low in battery? That could also affect its ability to sync configurations and update automatically. So connect it to charge!
Quick Recap
Kindle and Audible are not syncing simply because of mismatching settings on the apps or the Amazon account.
Once you have scoured all of the possible configurations and set everything neatly, there is no way you can’t sync your favorite books to read or listen to them whenever you want.
