How to Fix When JBL Link Music Isn’t Bluetooth Pairing?
After reviewing what could cause issues with the pairing of your JBL Link, it’s time to troubleshoot.

Solution #1 Hard Reset the Speaker
In order for the Bluetooth connection to be made, Your Speaker must Receive Power.
There could be a problem somewhere throughout the power income line and to fix this problem, you’ll have to Hard Reset your speaker.
That is done by unplugging the device.
- Unplug your JBL Link Music from the electrical outlet for 5 Minutes
Once 5 minutes have elapsed, re-attach the power cable of the speaker back into the power source and turn on the device.
Let the device startup and then test the Bluetooth pairing.
Note: Keeping the speaker unplugged for less than 5 minutes will not discharge the device.
Solution #2 Trigger the Pairing Mode
Chances are that you’re not triggering the Pairing Mode of the JBL Link Music Speaker.
There’s a specific way to enable the Bluetooth Mode on your JBL Link Music device, to make it discoverable by your mobile or another Bluetooth device.
- Ensure your speaker is plugged in and Press the Bluetooth Button for 3 seconds
After holding the power button for the least 3 seconds, the speaker will go into pairing mode.
You’ll know that the speaker has become discoverable once the Bluetooth Button starts illuminating.
Note: You’ll have around 1-2 minutes to get the speaker hooked up to your device.
Solution #3 Restart the Mobile’s Bluetooth
It is likely that the Bluetooth Feature on your mobile device isn’t detecting the speaker.
What you should try in this solution is restarting that feature and then attempting to hook up with the JBL Link device.
All mobile devices and laptops have an installed Bluetooth feature.
Here’s how to restart your mobile device’s Bluetooth:
- Navigate to Settings on your device.
- Head to “Wireless” or directly access the “Bluetooth” tab.
- Select the Activation Slider of the feature.
- Turn off the Bluetooth Feature.
- Wait for 5 Minutes.
- Re-enable Bluetooth.
Once the Bluetooth has been turned on again, check if you could pair it with the speaker.
Note: Make sure that you re-enable the pairing mode on your JBL Link Speaker.
Solution #4 Forget & Re-Add the Speaker
Assuming you already have the JBL Link Speaker in your mobile’s remembered devices, Forgetting and Re-adding the device should do the trick.
Whenever a Bluetooth device hooks up with your mobile, a profile for that device is created in the Bluetooth tab for easier connection next time.

- Navigate to Settings > Bluetooth on your device.
- Locate the JBL Link.
- Press Settings > Forget this Device.
- Attempt to re-add the speaker
Once the speaker is removed, its profile will be erased from the device.
Note: The profile of the speaker will be re-recreated once a connection is achieved again.
Solution #5 Factory Reset the JBL Link
If nothing worked so far, then you should perform a Factory Reset on the JBL Link.
This will clear up any software bugs with the device, along with reverting all settings to their factory defaults.
This solution is strongly recommended whenever your speaker is undergoing connection problems, whether it will be Bluetooth or not.
- Unplug the speaker and hold the Power and Mute Button for 10-15 Seconds
Before letting go of the buttons reattach your speaker’s cable to the electrical outlet again.
This should immediately startup the speaker and allow you to interact with the device.
Note: All settings and features of the JBL will be erased as a result of the reset.
JBL Link Portable Bluetooth Paring Not Working – Quick Fix
The JBL Link Portable is kind of a different story than the regular Link speaker.
Since the speaker is portable, it doesn’t connect to an electrical outlet but has an Internal Battery that charges and therefore enables the device’s functions.
As for the Bluetooth Connectivity, it works the same way as the regular JBL Link and has the same features.
Let’s look up the best ways to troubleshoot your Link Portable when it doesn’t pair!
Fix #1 Recharge the Device
Chances are that your JBL Link Portable has Run out of Charge and can no longer support wireless Bluetooth connection.
What’s most audible to do, is have your speaker plugged into the charger for 15-30 minutes, just enough to charge its battery to a functional level.
Only then, you shall re-attempt the Bluetooth connection by pressing the Bluetooth Button (check the pairing instructions).
- Plug your JBL Link Portable into the charger and wait for around 30 minutes
Once the charging period has elapsed, unplug the speaker and attempt to pair it.
Note: Ensure that your mobile device and the speaker are close to each other while pairing.
Fix #2 Toggle Bluetooth Mode ON/OFF
Even if the Bluetooth Mode has been enabled on your JBL Link Portable, there could be issues going on with the feature.
What you should do, is have the feature toggled ON and OFF at least multiple times, before attempting to reconnect the device.
Here’s how to toggle the Bluetooth Mode ON and OFF for multiple times:
- Plug your speaker into the Charger.
- Locate the Bluetooth Button on the device.
- Press and hold the Bluetooth button for 3 seconds.
- Keep pressing the buttons for 3-second intervals 3-5 times.
- Attempt to pair your speaker.
if the pairing mode is available, there should be a blue aura around the Bluetooth button.
By the time you’re attempting to pair the speaker, make sure that the blue aura is lit up.
Note: Keep in mind that the pairing mode will disable by itself after 30 seconds to a minute.
Fix #3 Reset JBL Link Portable Software
There’s a quick way out of this problem and it is to Reset your JBL Link Portable.
This is a software function, imbued by the manufacturer, to help resolve all types of problems with the speaker, including connectivity issues.
That’s why you’ll have to perform a reset on your JBL Speaker to resolve the Bluetooth connectivity problem.
- Press and hold the Power/Mute Buttons for 10-15 seconds until the speaker reboots
Once the speaker goes into a reboot, it will take him 1-2 minutes in order to undergo the complete reset sequence.
Make sure that the device is unbothered for the time being.
Alert: Interacting with the speaker in any way during the reset could cancel the process.
