Dyson Airwrap Stopped Working? – The Complete Repair Guide

The Dyson Airwrap styler obviously a great hairstyling tool but your Dyson airwrap stopped working. If you have one, make sure to read it until the end!

The problem is, when the Airwrap stops working, it can be tough to figure out what’s going on with it.

As expensive as this product is, you will definitely want to know how to fix it. 

That’s where this guide comes in.

I will walk you through all the different reasons your Dyson Airwrap may be malfunctioning. 

Your Dyson Airwrap may be overheating due to the thermostat or the motor getting too hot. If this is the case, unplug our device and wait at least minutes for it to cool down. 

Most of these Airwrap fixes will be easy to do, while some will require effort.

It will be worth it to get your Dyson Airwrap up and running again when it’s all over. 

Why Has My Dyson Airwrap Stopped Working?

When it comes to this very expensive piece of equipment, there could be a few potential causes. 

For the most part, your answer can be boiled down to 4 main reasons:

Your styler has a faulty power source

• The filter is clogged
• The air ducts are clogged
• Your styler has a faulty component (power cable, electronic board, thermal fuse, etc).

Don’t worry. I will be covering how to troubleshoot and fix all of these problems in this article.

What To Do When Your Dyson Airwrap Stops Working

The first thing to do is: don’t panic. The guide is designed to get your Dyson Airwrap up and running again.

As long as you follow these troubleshooting tips, your device will feel like it’s brand new. 

Check The Power Outlet

The problem with your Dyson Airwrap might not be the unit itself but the outlet you plugged the unit into. 

This is a common occurrence and one of the first things you should check when troubleshooting this issue. 

Inspect the power outlet for any damage, such as cracks, corrosion, or looseness.

• If the outlet is corroded, clean it with vinegar and water.
• If the outlet is loose, tighten the screws holding it in place.
• If the outlet is damaged, have an electrician replace it.

The easiest way to test your outlet is to try plugging your phone or another device into the outlet and see if it charges. 

If it does charge, the outlet is fine. If not, then you need to use another outlet. 

Troubleshoot The Airwrap Cord

If the power outlet is not the problem, then it may be the cord for the Airwrap device itself. 

The cord for the Airwrap must remain completely intact in order to operate correctly. 

Over time, the power cord will loosen or become damaged over time. This can result in your device not turning on at all. 

Flip your appliance over and check the back for loose connections. If there’s any damage to the cord, you will need to replace it with a new unit. 

Make Sure Your Device Is Not Overheating 

Inside your, Dyson Airwrap is a thermostat and a motor. If either one of these components gets too hot, the entire unit will stop working. 

To check if the hair dryer is overheating, place your hand at the top of the unit. If it feels hot to the touch, this may be due to overheating. 

You can also sniff around the device. If you smell a strange odor emitting from it, this could also mean overheating.  

Thankfully, overheating is an easy problem to solve: 

1. Unplug your unit from the wall or power source that you’re using.
2. Keep the unit unplugged for at least 15 minutes. This will give it time to cool down. 
3. When 15 minutes is up, plug the unit back into the wall or the power source that you’re using.

Warning: The Dyson Airwrap can operate without its filter cage, but using it this way is not recommended.

Using the styler without the filter cage will increase the chance of overheating.

Troubleshoot The Filtration System

The filtration system for the Airwrap is essential for protecting the motor from getting clogged with dust.  

The problem is, dust is so fine that it’s easy for it to still get past the filters. That dust can easily affect your device. 

You will have to periodically check the filters for dust and debris. 

There are a few ways to check if the filters need cleaning:

• You may be able to visually see dust or debris coming out of the filter. 
• Smell around the filter for any strange odors. 
• An indicator light may blink when the filter is ready to be changed.  

Once you’ve determined that the filter needs changing, you can do so by:

1. First, unplug the Airwrap from your power outlet. This is so you don’t get shocked or harmed during the cleaning process. 
2. Thread the filter cleaning brush through the cable. Slowly pull the brush over the hair styler. 
3. Rotate the bristles of the brush around the air filter. Try to get in every nook and cranny. 
4. Pull the bottom of the air filter off the hair styler. Pull it off slowly, and be careful not to remove it from the cable. 
5. With the air filter uncovered, spin the filter brush around the entire filter. Blow away any excess debris you find. 
6. Place the filter back in place. 

Tip: Don't use any liquids or chemicals to clean the filter. Doing so could damage the unit. 

Clean Out The Air Ducts 

The Dyson Airwrap uses heat to style your hair. As with any device that produces heat, there is always the risk of injury or fire if it overheats.

That’s why the Airwrap has a built-in thermal cutoff to prevent any damage from occurring.

If the temperature reaches excessive levels. The thermal fuse will trigger and shut off the device.

This thermal cutoff will shut the Dyson Airwrap off and prevent it from working.

Thermal cutoffs are usually caused by clogged air ducts.

When the air ducts are blocked, and heat builds up inside the unit, it can cause overheating.

To prevent further damage, the thermal cutoff is activated.

The solution: In order to fix this, you will need to give those air ducts a good cleaning. 

Identify and remove any blockages inside in order to allow for smooth airflow once again.

If the Dyson Airwrap thermal cutoff has been triggered, then you’ll have to leave it alone for an hour or so to cool off completely.

Tip: It's recommended that you clean your Dyson Airwrap filter at least once a week. More, if you use the styler a lot or if your home has poor air quality. 

Troubleshoot The Powerboard 

If your Dyson hair dryer is not working, it may be due to a problem with the electronic board.

To check this, you will have to measure the input and also output supply voltage by using a multimeter.

To measure the input voltage of the supply:

1. Set your multimeter to AC voltmeter.
2. Touch the black probe to the ground of the supply.
3. Touch the red probe to the input of the supply.
4. The voltage reading should be your input voltage.

To measure the output voltage of the supply:

1. Set the multimeter to AC voltmeter.
2. Touch the black probe to the chassis of the device.
3. Touch the red probe to one of the output terminals of the supply. 
4. The voltage reading should be the output voltage.

If the two voltages are almost similar (about 220V), the board is working. If the voltage is zero, lower, or not the same, the board is faulty, and you will need to replace it.
